    bcm_mcast_mld_add:833

Thanks. No wonder there is little in the way of satisfying explanations. RT-AC86U uses BCM4366E RT-AX86U uses Broadcom’s BCM4908 and BCM43684 chipsets So, I wonder if upgrading from the AC to the AX (which I've been contemplating anyway) might eliminate this little annoyance.

    bcm_mcast_mld_add:833

What is "kernel: bcm_mcast_mld_add:833 mc_fdb->rep_list?" I'm getting one of those about every 5 to 10 mins. Can anyone explain it to me? Googling turns up mentions of this going back several years. A "fix" offered is to change the logging parameters but that seems like the wrong idea. I see...

    RT-AC86U Upgrade Path

Does this mean the speed test within your router is getting close to 1 GB or close to my 500-600 GB?

    RT-AC86U Upgrade Path

Yes, this router has been very good to me. I use Merlin firmware. I do have some concerns: I have gigabit fiber service but my router only gets between 500 mbs down and 600 mbs up directly from the gigabit ethernet connection. Wireless speeds in the house are about 315 mbs down and 360 mbs up...

    RT-AC86U Upgrade Path

Colin, thanks. Yes I made a typo. Something skipped a track! All those ACs, AXs, 86s and 88s make my eyes cross. Throw in a couple of XTs and things get really messy. And thanks for the info.

    RT-AC86U Upgrade Path

L&LD, thanks. Since I am moving from an AC86U it seems like the AX86U would be a obvious choice. Amazon makes it hard to compare the AC86U to the AX88U since their comparison charts are not apples-to-apples. The one difference I can see is 5700mbs vs 6000mbs but there is nothing to tell me why...

    RT-AC86U Upgrade Path

Looks Like RT-AC86U is at end of life: - NOTE: all the models supported by Asuswrt-Merlin on the 386_xx series are now officialy on Asus' End of Life list, which means unless there are new major security issues, no new updates will be provided by Asus. What is the...

    XT8 vs XT9, Decision

Ah. I was thinking that it was normal to set them side-by-side during the setup process and let the wireless be configured. I suppose I could run an ethernet between the two during setup. Are you suggesting I use the second XT8 as a simple access point? Lets say I was moving from place to place...

    XT8 vs XT9, Decision

Glens, thank again. Assuming I get two XT8s and I have wired ethernet (5e) available, should I set up wireless or wired backhaul? I assume the default will be wireless. If it gets setup this way (wireless), can I simply plug the remote node into the wired ethernet wall port and make a simple...

    XT8 vs XT9, Decision

glens, Thanks for the detailed response. The XT9 is about $100 more at Amazon. Perhaps there is not enough functional difference to justify that. With my RT-AC86U I had to uncheck "Auto select channel including DFS channels" but I forget why. Something wasn't working right. I am very close to...

    XT8 vs XT9, Decision

Hi, I am looking to upgrade to a Mesh configuration. Can anyone help me decide between XT8 and XT9? My client list consists of 18 clients: 2 wired 7 5 GHz 9 2.4 GHz I often stream HD movies and TV shows. My DVR says it is in Dolby Vision. I get very high quality video and 5.1 surround sound...

    IP anomoly

I have a new printer, an EPSON 4830. It is working wirelessly just fine, but it does not show up in the router's network map client list. It DOES show in System Log -> Wireless log. I can ping its IP in Network tools, I can even go to its web page where I am offered the opportunity to change...

    Sharing USB in Mesh configuration.

The signal is weak in some parts of the house. I have cat5e already wired to a place that would be good for another access point.
