    Replacement trays for NAS?

Thanks Tim, sure I understand that consumer grade NAS devices have a limited number or insertion cycles. I regret it, but probably was not clear on that I have a separate server and attached storage. This copy to additional devices is purely for the purpose of creating additional copies of content.

    Replacement trays for NAS?

If I could swap the drives, the limiting factor would be the number of drives/swaps. In my simplistic way of thinking about this, I considered a 2-drive NAS, supporting 3TB drives as JBOD, in which could swap both drives to have a different "volume" in. Than have 3 sets of "volumes" to rotate. I...

    Replacement trays for NAS?

Thanks Tim for your reply. I see your point in that a drive change is seen differently by a NAS compared to a tape drive for example, even if cold swapped. The problem with external drives, USB or eSATA is sizing. Any recommendation for ~5TB of media backup, to create a rotating schedule...

    Replacement trays for NAS?

Hi All, I would like to do a rotating backup schedule using a small 2-drive NAS by replacing the drives in it. (hotswap is not a must, just nice to have) The problem is that I simply cannot locate additional drive trays or holders for just about any brand out there. My choice of NAS was...

Connect two networks to share NAS, but keep networks isolated

thanks for your reply! I thought of this as well, my NAS is samba based, and has two NICs, but... this way all shares are visible on both NICs I think. Some of my current shares are world readable, just to avoid authentication issues with some clients, which conversely will make it readable to...

Connect two networks to share NAS, but keep networks isolated

Hi All! I am looking for your advice on the following: Given are two adjacent single-family homes, each with its own home network, one actually being connected to the internet through cable, the other one via DSL. The first home has a dedicated open-source firewall with a dedicated mail/web...

    patch cable length?

Great, thanks! Searching the web for this information yielded conflicting information. What seems clear is that the IEEE standard specifies a minimum length of 2.5ft between nodes. Now does two switches qualify as two nodes? I think yes, but then again there are many who report no issues with...

    patch cable length?

Hi All, This may be trivial information, but I am having hard time settling the issue on what is the minimal length needed for Cat5e patch cables? For example: if I want to connect two cascading switches mounted next to each other - how long the patch cable has to be? I also have a number...

Zyxel USG100 Unified Security Gateway Review

Great, thanks Tim! OK, so the second part of the review was posted, but I missed it. (Note-to-self: post an improvement suggestion, that references in multi-part articles be made in both ways, not just retrospectively, i.e.pointing to the first part in the review, but add a link in the...

    Snom m3 issues

No, you can have more than one extension registered, but you have to make sure that a call rings only one extension. The number of handsets to ring this extension you can control on the snom website. You could do something like: Handset 1 2 3 4 201 x - - - 202 - x - -...

    Snom m3 issues

Upon re-reading my reply to your question, I realized that my answer may not sound simple or clear. Bottom line regarding the "missed call" message (also per Michael's response) if there are more than one extensions/identities on which an incoming call does ring you will get a missed call...

    Snom m3 issues

I also have POTS lines from Verizon, although not on FIOS  and I have CID service as well. Regarding the "missed call" message: I made this mistake myself initially to set up as many identities as the number of handsets, but Michael's message helped. You do not need them. You may...

    Snom m3 issues

Well, me no expert by any means, but I also happen to use Trixbox with my Snoms and kept the POTS lines as well. You are not mentioning if you have monitored the incoming call in Asterisk CLI (ssh to your box and enter "asterisk -rvvvvvvvvvv" command) Also not sure what do you mean loosing...

    Snom m3 issues

Solved Michael, Thanks for your post and the config information. Actually it forced me to rethink my dial plan. The fact that Snom can have 8 different identities and 8 handsets associated limited my thinking, but now with a single registration all handsets ring on incoming calls and when the...
