    Best AC router in terms of stable open firmware?

    Looking for something that has good support from either merlin/openwrt/tomato, other than that atleast ac1900 and decent processor (will be doing QoS and some custom VPN routing so need the horsepower). The pricing for AC1900 and above routers seems really wild, not sure what the best options...

    Is r7000 worth extra cost over archer c7/9

    Just looking for something with fast downlink, small apartment so range is insignificant, max 5 devices on average. Also, can the archer c7/9 do ddwrt/tomato or do I need to stick to the asus / netgear ac1900s for that?
