Cisco NEW Perpetual Licenses for the Catalyst 1200 and 1300 Switches

I just found out this. Too bad I just bought my third Cisco switch. These switches are going to be faster than what I bought. " Cisco has refreshed its small business switch range, giving the world the Catalyst 1200 and 1300 series devices.… Both ranges ship with a dual-core Arm CPU that runs...

    VyOS for Home

Is anybody running this at home? How are you finding it for home use? I think once I make a configuration, I can use it over and over again like using a Cisco configuration. Do you find switching snapshots of the OS easy? I am thinking about using it for home. I do not want to compile my...

Cisco wireless 150ax AP firmware update.

I just updated my 3 Cisco 150ax APs with new firmware 10.5.2.0. I loaded the firmware on the primary AP and it distributed the firmware to the other 2 units. It then rebooted them. For some reason it did not reboot the primary AP. So, I pulled the power on the primary AP one of the other APs...

    Faster Network

So, I am going to build my granddaughter a faster game network without wireless. She has gotten into gaming and I thought I would take wireless out of the picture. Wireless is slow and will slow down a network waiting on responses. Anybody doing this? Basically, I am building a network vlan...

    TP-Link Archer High Vulnerability

Here is a TP-Link security issue. Just glancing it recommends running an older software, but the older software is recommending another software, so I don't really know if there is a fix. Probably a good idea not to run it. https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-31710

    Windows NAS - Windows 11

Anybody running a Windows 11 NAS or a Windows NAS? I started kicking around the idea of running a low power CPU in a tower case with Windows 11 using a SSD for the OS and creating a RAID for the NAS using a virtual Windows 11 and SSDs. What do you think? I think this would be a good long-term...

    My NAS is Failing

I turned on my NAS this morning and it is telling me to perform an immediate backup. So, I am on the clock looking for something to backup 750 Gig too. I found a 2 TB hard drive that says it fits in my old pfsense Dell 3020 PC. So, I am going to try it. I tried a software update but it now...

    Wireless AP ratings

I just read this article on Cisco wireless APs. They were rated second above TP-Link. There downside was disconnecting if the mesh was not configured properly??? I would never use mesh any way as it is slower than wired. https://www.techradar.com/best/best-wap

    Ruckus Security Issue

Here is another security issue. Sounds like you need to load new software. If you have an EOL Ruckus unit you need to stop using it as they will not write a security fix for them. This is pretty much the same for Cisco as they do not support EOL devices...

    Pfsense with newer CPUs

I wonder if I use a gen 6 Intel I3-6100T CPU vs a gen 4 i3-4130 will I notice a difference in performance? Is the instruction set different enough that it will make a difference? I am getting ready to try it. I want to see if encryption works better or anything else. I thought I had a...
