Is it possible to completely remove AIProtection and other Asus bloatware?

Why not spicing things up with a poll? :)

Hi, please vote and explain your choice and what you have implemented as an alternative. Thank you!

Is it possible to completely remove AIProtection and other Asus bloatware?

I'm also concern: can I trust TrendMicro? They've got hacked badly, that doesn't seem good for a security firm! So does TrendMicro knows all the websites I visit, how to prevent that but more importantly... why??? It would be nice to have a pinned discussion with all the facts and explanations...

    Security of AsusWRT/Merlin vs OpenWRT/LEDE

Does OpenWRT offer IPS/IDS (Asus/Merlin firmware does)? I thought that Linksys could have been an higly popular choice over here by offering/advertising support for opensource firmware like OpenWRT.. I thought was a win-win, but I think people still prefere Asus and I wonder why. Thanks!

what happens if I disable UPnP?

thank you all, the discussion got really interesting.. but beyond my basic networking understanding. My home network, as most I guess, has many unknown devices (guests, unsecured computers and so on) and perhaps few gadget/devices that can't be trusted. Would UPnP be a security hazard? All of...

what are the best/greater routers supported by Merlin firmwares?

I'm liking the RT-AC86U for the CPU while not seeing the utility for my use case of an 8 ports hub on the router (88U/3100 modells). I'm surprised there's no Asus model with WPA3 or 10G ports there yet, I guess they might show up soon :)

Bitdefender box 2 with a properly set router: overkill?

Sorry I should have read what I wrote before posting.. my concern was what happens without the Bitdefender box: how heavy it's AiProtection IPS, your code (if they can run together) on the Asus router CPU/RAM or if it's better to offload with such a device (but I'm tending to prefer a open...

Bitdefender box 2 with a properly set router: overkill?

Hi :) would adding a Bitdefender box 2 to the network a bit overkill if running Asus router with Merlin firmware + AiProtection IPS + Diversion + Skynet? (sorry I didn't read the docs yet as I might think some to these may have overlapping functionality). My concern is that all of the above...

what happens if I disable UPnP?

Hi, I read everywhere that it's a big secuiry hazard! So please if disable will I be still able to use: - my email program - torrent client - skype (or other communicaion app) - gaming console (nintentdo or sony) - nzbget - other programs that I might have forgotten ? If not, is it all about...

what are the best/greater routers supported by Merlin firmwares?

What else the hardware encryption offered by that model is good for? Please also, any other model offering it? Thanks :) My bad! I mean a feature where you set only one SSID and then the router does the homework switching devices across the 2 radios according to the best performance (Synology...

what are the best/greater routers supported by Merlin firmwares?

I think QOS it's really needed! And I'd love to prevent buffer bloat too! :) Cheers

what are the best/greater routers supported by Merlin firmwares?

Thanks, I was just reading it :) I guess one has to choose between the 8 Gigabit ports of the RT-AC88U or the extra bandwidth offered by th RT-AC5300 (oh my god is so ugly-looking). I also guess none will offer a "unified" SSID wifi network name (like with the mesh products), right? Many thanks :)

what are the best/greater routers supported by Merlin firmwares?

Hi, please wha's the best Asus router I could run Merlin on? Also, on a side note: do some of you used Synology routers and what do you miss from them compared to Asus+Merlin ones? (apparently Synology releases frequent firmware updates for their routers). Many thanks :)

default unix permissions for NFS share, should I?

Hi, I'm setting up a NFS share for my Linux computer and not sure if should disable the "apply default UNIX permissions" in advance settings. User manual https://www.synology.com/en-global/know ... macnfs_nfs doesn't say what happened if disabled (666 or 777) and I'm a very dumb Linux user...
