Wifi Access Point buying advice please

I set it to its default roam-factor by using the smart-roam command. I'm not sure what the default is but will try various settings in the next few days. Thanks

Wifi Access Point buying advice please

Makes sense but I'm in a fringe area for AT&T and never get more than 1 bar. Is there a way to compare cell and wifi signal strengths?

Wifi Access Point buying advice please

@Trip I now have two R600s running Unleashed and noticed that our iPhones will switch to the cellular network instead of roaming between the APs but will reconnect fine if WiFi is turned off and then back on on the iPhones. Any idea whether there is a known quirk using this combination of...

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

I did a search for your postings on these switches but could not find the ones with the examples. Since the CLIs are supposedly similar between Cisco and Juniper, it would be great if I could read them and see if the instructions map over easily to a Juniper EX that I wouldn't have to buy. Thanks

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

It is only a fanless Intel 1.5GHz 2-core Rangeley box with two i354 integrated NICs and two i211 NICs. iperf3 shows it can forward at about 900Mbps between any two ports or between VLANs on the same port. Lightweight pfBlockerNG-devel config running but not much else. CPU is usually at 15%

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

I've been running pfSense with a TP-Link T1600G-28TS in managed L2 mode as my core switch for a while now where interVLAN routing including mDNS is managed by the pfSense box. Since that switch has L3 capabilities, I'd like to learn how to use them should the day arise when video streams need to...

Looking for WiFi 6 adapter to connect Windows Desktop to Xfinity XB7

Just wanted to let the posters know that my son finally bit the bullet and had Ethernet run to every room so that everything with an Ethernet port is wired up!

Looking for WiFi 6 adapter to connect Windows Desktop to Xfinity XB7

I borrowed another AC-RT68U. Is it safe to go from 2020.2 to 2021.5 without a NVRAM reset or would I be tempting fate by doing so? Thanks

Looking for WiFi 6 adapter to connect Windows Desktop to Xfinity XB7

I hear you and the long term plan is to hire someone to run Ethernet cables to all the rooms. I bought an AX200 based PCIe card in the interim but will try FreshTomato (which version?) and will rummage through my closets to see if I can find my pair of Powerline adapters to try out.

    Media Bridge Mode and mDNS

In another thread, I'm trying to get Media Bridge Mode working reliably for Unicast traffic. Anticipating success, I thought I'd ask whether multicast traffic like mDNS uses will also work in this mode. Thanks

Looking for WiFi 6 adapter to connect Windows Desktop to Xfinity XB7

Tried it with an Asus RT-AC68U and the network connection drops after a few hours. The Xfinity gateway indicates it is connected which suggests it is something on the wired side rather than the wireless one. I'm going to add an Intel NIC just in case there is an issue with the motherboard's...

Looking for WiFi 6 adapter to connect Windows Desktop to Xfinity XB7

My son just moved to a location where his desktop is now in a different room than his Xfinity XB7 Gateway and he can no longer connect the two over an Ethernet cable. There is one intervening internal wall between the two. It would appear that there are three wireless choices: USB AX adapter...

Looking for router SBC suggestions for high expandability/modularity

I got a used HP T730 Thin Client which is very quiet and has a PCIe slot to which I added a 4-port Intel Gigabit NIC to make a nice pfSense box. People have reported success with a dual-port SFP+ NIC in that slot although it likely doesn't push the full 10G per port. Prices fluctuate and I got...

Looking for suggestions for 2.5 Gbps PCIe Ethernet adapter that runs on Ubuntu

The advertised rates are 1G and 10G so ethtool won't accept 2.5G as a speed setting.

Looking for suggestions for 2.5 Gbps PCIe Ethernet adapter that runs on Ubuntu

I bought some Wiitek's that are supposed to be multi-speed and tried connecting one in a ConnectX-3 in a Linux box to a Realtek 2.5G USB on an ESXi box. The weird thing is that iperf3 gives me 2.2-ish Gbps from the slow interface to the fast one but only 750Mbps in the opposite direction. Same...

Testing limits of home Ethernet wiring

Windows-to-go stick showed the same performance as existing Windows on SSD. I did a clean install of Windows on new SSD, plugged in one adapter and installed the driver (version 10.28) from the CD image that popped up as a letter drive. I then plugged in the other adapter, cabled them up, set...

Testing limits of home Ethernet wiring

John, I did a live boot and used iperf3 with the -B option but, unlike Windows, it seems to be bypassing the network interfaces to give me 34Gbps. I finally figured out how to force the bits on the wire using network namespaces as suggested in the following link and confirmed that the USB hub...
