How would you go about syncing/symlinking root home folder to entware drive during system operation?

basically I have personal settings that get written to /root/*, which is a symlink to /tmp/home/root/ We know that on system shutdown, everything on /tmp gets wiped, and lost, including personal config files. I wish to have all /root/* files stored to /opt/root/ instead (/opt itself is a...

    Redirect port 443 to 8443

Simple idea: Since Google Chrome in Windows by default is looking for https://router.asus.com when typing in the hostname, how do I reconfigure my router (I have Merlin, SSH, and can make JFFS/entware custom scripts/configs if need be) so that any hits on port 443 on the router redirects to the...

Solved Windows doesn't resolve Android device hostnames?

ping -a 10.x.x.10 does give me Pinging Android-Device [10.x.x.10] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 10.x.x.10: bytes=32 time=63ms TTL=64 however ping Android-Device always gives Ping request could not find host Android-Device. Please check the name and try again. Which also makes reaching...

Looking for a USB modem for 5G speeds, that could handle the heat generated.

So Internet has gotten too expensive everywhere I look in my country, and I'm looking for solutions. I've already migrated my family households to use modern Asus Routers (so 4 in total), and they all support USB 3.0 (5 Gbps data link). So I'm thinking, if there's some USB 5G modem hardware...

Entware Can we check how much life a USB flashdrive has left?

I have a slow 4GB SanDisk Cruzer Blade USB 2.0 drive as my entware device, plus a smaller swap file just in case, it hasn't died on me ever since I got it over 10 years ago. Granted, it hasn't been used often either, but for various smaller projects. I intend to run it until it dies, backing up...

Solved Can I reach my TOR enabled Asuswrt-merlin router from within TOR?

Is there a way/script that shows what IP/TOR domain name within the TOR network my router's TOR "WAN" connection is using so I can bookmark it and access my router within the TOR network from my phone/laptop that's connected to TOR as well?

Keep Wireless Router mode but have AX86U automatically connect to my phone's Wi-Fi Hotspot when I am home to have that as the only Internet source?

Can I set up my AX86U (it has Merlin) to stay in a wireless router mode, (so my intranet still has the router as a DHCP server, firewall and everything else) while setting it up to have its only Internet source be my phone when I come home and turn on my phone's wifi hotspot? This means I...

AX86U Wi-Fi connection gives my Wi-Fi devices public IP addresses and Router IP doesn't get detected in network scans.

I somehow cannot access the WebGUI for the router and it's kind of become a Wi-Fi repeater for my ISP instead of myself. Is there a way to access the router WebGUI via LAN cable without factory resetting it?

    WoL question on asuswrt firmware.

Is sending a WoL packet via an OpenVPN tunnel (from my phone) to the LAN blocked by some internal firewall in the Asuswrt (or merlin) firmware by default?

Which addon is best suited for manually blocking a handful of domains, and nothing else?

Hello dear community, it's been a while. Hope you all are doing well and healthy. In short, (I have no interest in blocking ads or malware in my router), I want to block these handful of domains...

    Strange port forwarding entry.

Does this port forwarding entry sound familiar to anyone else? A search online didn't find any correlation between the Transmission client software and the port 58172. I'm on firmware 388.2 alpha build. I don't remember adding this entry myself, but could it maybe be something that changed...

Are there any known user scripts made for entware/AMTM/WebUI for more fine control for NFS/SMB/WebDAV file servers?

Are there any file server scripts made for AMTM/WebUI for more fine control for NFS/SMB/WebDAV or some WebUI entware software for managing any decent file server sharing?

How do I download entware-setup.sh again to my 388.x firmware?

I need to reinstall entware again but I can't run `amtm` or `entware-setup.sh` anymore.

Merlin 388.1 AX86U, Wi-Fi connection is to phone dropping frequently, have to turn off and on Wifi on phone to 'fix'. Happens again minutes after.

When I try to ping the router in Termux I get 'Destination unreachable' during connection loss until I restart the wifi. This issue did not start until a couple months ago. I do not remember if it was present before it upgraded to 388.1 firmware. I am willing to provide logs from the router...

Is there a way to let Guest Wifi clients see each other but not Intranet devices?

Trying to set up a Google Nest Hub device for my IoT Guest network (same Asus router), and I seem only to find a "Access Intranet" option which I don't want to let all my smart light bulbs and other devices see my home subnet devices. A Fing network scan (Android app) shows only the router and...

[Syslog] "kernel: tntfs error (device sdb1, pid 5172): ntfs_nfs_get_inode(): Failed to get inode 0x38aa (error 2)."

This error message floods the syslog every ten seconds. Seems to be a new problem. What do you think it is?

Entware Script idea, looking for feedback and suggestions.

I read up on the sync command, and I was thinking about the possibility of writing a similar shell script that does the same thing for all config files stored in /tmp/home/root/ to /mnt/entware-usb/entware/root/ and back. The purpose is to, for example, have all shell histories be stored to...

How do you enable in the Asuswrt firmware so that local devices can run host/nslookup on a local IP and get its hostname that the router has recorded?

Hostname decided by router's DHCP table or one decided by the respective devices own settings, however it works. I can ping Samsung-S22(with and without .local) for example, and get it's IP adress back, but I wish to also get the same DNS name from "pinging" 10.0.0.67, (with whatever commands...

Entware Looking for a minimal desktop environment to install via Entware to connect and use over VNC.

The idea is to use a locally installed desktop environment over VNC, (only booted when I need it) so I can run simple GUI software for deduplication and archiving files that require advanced settings too annoying to use man pages and CLI options for every time. This way the router's CPU does all...
