    WeLine OS (Replacement)

Yes, trust is the issue. That said there are really no devices in the specific form factor. I am willing to do some work to replace the OS, I have done this multiple times on other hardware, mostly routers. Just doing some homework to see if anyone else has already been down this road...

    WeLine OS (Replacement)

I have been looking or a small 2.5" single bay NAS and just discovered the Orico CD2510. It appears to be one of a number of private labeled devices running the WeLine OS. Devices WeLine Intro The devices require registration and uses an "app" on all supported devices. There is not web...

    ASUS CT-8 Random Reboot

I have a set of CT-8 that I put into service this past week replace another failed device. Using a single device as a router. I am noticing frequent disconnects, and based upon the log files, it appears the device is spontaneously rebooting once or twice a day. I am thinking of making a...

Linksys Velop WHW030(X) Detailed Config (Web GUI?)

I am trying to help a friend (remotely ATM) with issues they are having with their Linksys Velop WHW0303 Mesh. They have tried to connect both a wireless camera and a CPAP machine to the network, but the units are not connecting. Details are vague TBH. After reading the manual, which is...

RP-SMA Connector Sizes on Dual Band Devices

@Tech9 Looks like a winner, thanks as usual! @Tech Junky , thanks for the graphical help. This is real good. I did not understand this relationship.

RP-SMA Connector Sizes on Dual Band Devices

@Tech Junky, No I do mean the outside connectors. OK, this is real embarrassing. Apparently the antenna that broke off left it's brass threaded insert behind. Until you asked for pictures I did not remove the other antennas, but did try to affix an antenna from another device, which did not...

RP-SMA Connector Sizes on Dual Band Devices

Unfortunately the site does not like the term RP-SMA and Google has not been helpful either so far. I have a few devices that I need to replace antennas on. ASUS RT-AC68U TP-Link Archer C7 Dell Micro 3060 All the devices use an antenna with a female connection, which I believe is RP-SMA. My...

OpenVPN unable to access local shares (AC3000 - CT8)

@ColinTaylor Excellent summary! Thank you! I expect to only have 1 remote client so this should not be an issue

OpenVPN unable to access local shares (AC3000 - CT8)

@ColinTaylor I missed that this was a Merlin only scenario, thanks First para - Acknowledging your comments re stock vs Merlin FW and noting what I believe are the relevant differences Second para - Acknowledging your comment about testing vs permanent, balance really not relevant but context...

OpenVPN unable to access local shares (AC3000 - CT8)

@colin, thank you. Hopefully not TLDR Regarding TAP, what are the other problems you are referring to? I had a trio of RT-AC1900P\AC68us running Merlin. IIRC, there are differences in both the OpenVPN (multiple server option) and in the USB connectivity (SMB version options). As for Test...

Minumum Distance between AP\Router and Device

I installed the Amazon Ethernet dongle on one of the Firesticks. No complaints after a couple of weeks. I plan to do the others in the near future. Apparently if you buy one with USB ports on the device you can add storage and perform other interesting hacks. Lots on you tube.

OpenVPN unable to access local shares (AC3000 - CT8)

Thank you Colin, Not surprised the subnet is the issue. This is a consumer product and I would expect that ASUS would cover this in their article on setting up the OpenVPN server, for dumb users like me, but they do not. In effect, the documentation (and other YouTubes etc) configure OpenVPN...

OpenVPN unable to access local shares (AC3000 - CT8)

I am testing OpenVPN Server on a set of ASUS CT8 (FW 3.0.0.4.386.47399) I have the CT8 set up behind my home network and it gets a WAN IP of 192.168.111.236. I am using the General default values with port 4999. I have a client setup with the Community build V2.5.7 running on the...

Minumum Distance between AP\Router and Device

I found this article, which basically indicates if APs are too close together they experience a lot more retires. I can not find the article that indicated spacing but I recall it saying space something like 1 or 3 wave lengths apart. This link shows how to calculate the wavelengths. Bottom...

Minumum Distance between AP\Router and Device

Brilliant! Never occurred to me that I could do this. I extensively wired the building when it was constructed in 2008 and everything that can be wired is. Looks like a $10-20 solution depending on how I do it.

Minumum Distance between AP\Router and Device

Sorry, no. This was poor editing on my behalf. I have TVs in 2 different rooms each with some type network equipment (IE Tivo, DVD, etc) connected via Ethernet to the AP's switch. Location facilitated cabeling odf the other devices. The AP is setup for wired back-haul to the router (another...

Minumum Distance between AP\Router and Device

Can one place a device to close to an AP? I have set up a trio of ASUS RT-AC1900 devices at a family members house. 2 of the MESH AP units are sitting behind the TV at one corner, mostly as it's convenient and I thought better than the floor. Family is had some complaints with mostly the...

Thank you, I was not clear. I plan to promote the device from AP back to Router.

    R7800 SmallNetBuilder Review

Sorry, dropped the ball here. Can you please clarify "janky"? Is this a matter of the generated OPVN file not working or something else? I think I can live with 5Mbps for the use.

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

In today's world most ISP devices include MoCa which supports LAN connections between "smart" cable boxes. If you do not have Cable TV then it's generally not an issue, however under item 3.1 out here you will find info on various connectivity options for FIOS that mitigate the use of a...
