Problems with XT8 AX6600 (RT-AX95Q) HW ver 2 running stock firmware.

I had a similar experience when I first set mine up over a year ago. These tweaks stabilized my connection; not sure which ones did the trick, but maybe they can help you as well. 388_21617 firmware (have been too scared to update haha); all three bands separated (Smart Connect off): Backhaul...

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

No screenshot handy, but mine (on stock 21617 firmware) have the Backhaul Connection Priority option as well. Two XT8s, no other routers in my AiMesh

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

Apologies if this is an obvious suggestion, but in addition to the above (DFS channels and nodes too far apart), there's a setting under AiMesh: if you click your XT8 satellite node, then 'Management', you can set Backhaul Connection Priority to "5Ghz-2 Wifi First". Another suggestion is to...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285

I upgraded to 388_21617 after purchasing the XT8s last year and had fairly frequent disconnections for the first week or so (not every 20 mins, however). I made the following tweaks to my system that appeared to have stabilized my connection, although I'm not smart enough to know which ones did...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23012

In this case I think it's better to toggle off DFS (might mean you can only use 80MHz bandwidth). It's still preferable to having the backhaul drop to 2.4GHz.

    XT8 5GHz-2 Backhaul Doesn't Hold - Any Final Suggestions?

I think channel 100 is a DFS channel, which is susceptible to interruption if it detects any RADAR signals. Can you change it to a non-DFS channel (e.g., I'm using 149, although I'm in Canada)?

    XT8 wireless connection seems slow.

https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html The blog says "in the US", but most of the principles apply elsewhere too.

Release ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22525

Hmm, strange - I tried looking up what "reason 4" is, and it looks like it's related to inactivity? Which doesn't sound right. Apparently, it doesn't always create a log event when RADAR is detected (although this is an old post, and it may have been fixed)...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22525

Are you using DFS channels for the backhaul? If so, I think it might kick you back to 2.4GHz if it detects RADAR.

Release ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22525

Have you tried fixing the channel and disabling Roaming Assistant on your 5GHz-2 band?

Release ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22525

I think you can see it under System Log --> Wireless Log. Scroll down and look for Chanspec in the 5GHz-2 section.

Best ASUS router for a large home

Ain't this the truth! I do think it's probably the most unobtrusive looking router out there. Our XT8s (just from Nov 2022) were pretty buggy for the first week, so I showed my wife some of the alternatives (Orbis, AX86U, GT-AX6000, Unifi Dream Router) and she wrinkled her nose at all of them...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22068

That sounds like a nightmare. Anecdotal, but I've been on 388_21617 (wireless backhaul, separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels, Smart Connect off, WPS off) since I got these (just over 2 mths, so certainly not a long sample) and managed to stabilize my connection with these tweaks: set Backhaul...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22068

Yikes, just out of nowhere? You didn't make any changes to any settings?

    Should I get tri-band routers?

Can you try out the Google Wifi you bought first and see if it suffices? I think dual band will typically cut your max theoretical throughput in half. If the internet speeds you (or your parents) pay for is high enough, it might not matter to them.

The Asus ZenWiFi AX XT8 is a POS, right?

21617 has been stable for me after a number of tweaks. Not brave enough to try 22068 yet...

    Best stable firmware for XT8

Only got the XT8s in Nov, so certainly not a long history, but 21617 has been stable for me (after a number of tweaks).

XT8 AiMesh Node PHY Rate zero

Can't offer any assistance, but I noticed something similar with my XT8s (I've been on 388_21617 since setting them up just over a month ago). Initially, the PHY stats appeared, but during that period, my connection was quite unstable. I made a series of tweaks over that initial week and a bit...

    XT8 normal behavior?

This might be the XT8's best feature - it's one of the most unobtrusive routers out there.

At my wits end (XT8 Mesh)

I only got the XT8s recently, but I'm on the same firmware. Connection was spotty the first week and a half, but it stabilized after I made some settings changes. I've had separate SSIDs for each band from the beginning. Not sure if you've already done these, but maybe worth a shot? for each...
