Hi All!

I just upgraded my 5 year old WNDR3800 with a RT-AC68U. After a horrendous install....couldn't get an internet connection on my wired PC although I could through a wireless client, plus a difficult time installing a wireless printer....I am having one small slightly annoying issue. The GUI loads very slowly, sometimes not at all, at 192.168.1.1. I am running Windows 10 on a 4 year old Dell XPS. I am using Chrome as my browser. Any ideas? Everything else seems to be working now, but this one issue is still bugging me....

Thanks!

Use a different browser.

This is often caused by a conflict with a security suite. Eset Smart Security is one of the known security products that does interfere with it. You will probably have to whitelist your router's IP in its configuration.

Hmmm...I use the Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. I added my ip address and still have the problem. Also today, I have been having problems with my wireless printer (HP Officejet 8600), when I print it will print a page then hang for a while, sometimes it will print eventually other times I get a no connection message.

As I was typing this, I just got a "Scan to computer is no longer active. The network connection to the printer has been lost" message.

Any ideas? Will the Merlin firmware help? Any chance this is related to the recent "upgrade" to Windows 10?

Thanks!

Check your NIC drivers for an update, also make sure all your network cables are Cat5e or higher, since this router has Gigabit ports. Older Cat5 cables will cause stability/performance issues.

Also check the output from "netstat -s" on your PC. Look for an abnormally high number of "Segments Retransmitted" or "Errors", which usually indicate a network link issue.

I just updated the NIC drivers. Don't see anything unusual with "Segments Retransmitted" or "errors". One the ICMPv4 stats, I have a lot of destination "unreachable".

I do have an unmarked network cable from the modem to the router that I will replace tomorrow. Hopefully that is it......

Ok, I changed the unlabled cable with a Cat 6 cable and am still having problems. As stated above, in addition to the very slow connecting to the GUI/router, I am getting a lot of disconnects on my wireless printer (HP Office Jet Pro 8600). I may just hardwire the printer into the router, but this doesn't help with the slow access to the GUI (or it may create other problems...)

I tried turning off all virus protections and my firewall and still have a difficult time connecting to my router and it is still losing connection to my wireless printer. Even when it finally connects to the router, it takes a long time to switch to various parts of the gui (switching to status, wireless, etc). I'm at a loss.

Use a different device such as a tablet or a mobile phone to confirm/eliminate the possibility of a problem with your PC and its security suite or browser addons.

Well, the gui on my iPad is fast as heck! I did disable the Windows firewall and defender and still had the problem with chrome. I thought I tried Edge a few days ago and still had the problem. However, today I tried edge and it was great. I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled the 64bit browser. So far it works great!
I have no idea why Chrome was causing the problem as there were no unusual plugins.....

But, so far everything is working now. Thanks for the help!

(I'm going to start another thread on some printer issues!)

At least one user recently reported having issues with the webui caused by an installed add-on in his web browser.
