Yes, I acknowledge that I'm running an older version. However, as mentioned many people did not want to upgrade much past 386.3_2 due to the NVRAM issues. I suspect there are still many people on this older version. I will have to do additional research to see if there has been a better...

Not enough notice IMO, should be written clearly in the firmware upgrade page in the WebGUI. Am I right in assuming that this only applies if I'm doing a "dirty" upgrade from one Merlin version to another? What will happen if I switch to official firmware and back, will it get cleared out then?

Thanks. I am running my 3 AC68P routers as AI-Mesh nodes. NVRAM is not an issue there. The AC88U has plenty of available NVRAM. Like I said, I'll just run 386.10 for a while longer. No problems with it and no big need to update. If need be, I'll wipe all 4 and do the updates in the future.

Note that RAM and NVRAM are two separate things. The RT-AC86U typically doesn't suffer the low NVRAM issues because it has double the amount of NVRAM (128K) compared to that of the RT-AC68U (64K). When running 386.10 on the AC68U there tends to be very little free NVRAM unless one either does a...

How low is "low". nvram usage doesn't change much once the router has been configured and is up and running. So unless your nvram usage is >99% it's probably safe to leave it. At least until a time when you're on site. That said, it should be safe enough to clear down that largest nvram...

...& set up the SSH server for LAN access). I poked around the router looking for the usual suspects: very low free RAM, high CPU loads, low NVRAM remaining, etc., and the only thing that jumped at me when looking at the list of currently running processes (using the htop utility) was this NVRAM...

...add the only other piece of information to add to the puzzle. I too had a very old configuration that suddenly had the "!" warning about low NVRAM. As an FYI, from what I was told, it's not that the new firmware suddenly used more NVRAM, but that the "!" warning threshhold was always there...

...And also once there are too many innocent warnings, people just stop paying attention to them, so they miss out the real critical warnings (like a low nvram warning, which can lead to a complete router crash and loss of settings). That's why warnings should only be used when actually necessary.

I am new here.. Not sure this is the right place to report a bug/issue. My router model is ASUS RT AC-88U. I have had a bad WAN connectivity issue with the last two releases of Merlin: 384.14_0 and 384.14_2. The issue appears to be that after upgrade the router no longer gets the default...

The issue was that there was no more checks for available nvram. Therefore quite a few users were out of free nvram, and didn't know about it, until suddenly they noticed they were no longer able to add new DHCP reservations (due to lack of nvram space - you can see plenty of these if you...

It feels a bit too coincidental that this is featured in the changes as a fix for some users to suddenly have low NVRAM...

Cool thanks very much folks! I will investigate more about the low nvram issue soon. The bug has been kindly reported here https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/issues/26 by Tulio. Feel free to add anything that you suspect can help me. In the meanwhile upstream code has been updated to...

Often times a mysterious loss of settings can be caused by low nvram space. You don't have a lot of features, but do you for instance have a lot of DHCP static assignments? What's the nvram utilization on the Tools page?

...following the installation guide carefully) sometimes erased my port forwarding rules. After some searching this seems to be related to low NVRAM. I checked under Tools -> Sysinfo and this seems true for my router; I'm currently using 65404/65536 bytes. The wifi is turned off (running Unifi...
