    Frustrating VPN Double NAT Issues

Thank you for your reply. It does seem the advertising for VPN providers is there to mislead the public, and draw them into buying products that aren't of any great use, and can become more of a hindrance than a benefit. I'm guessing the only real way to protect our internet usage is to adopt...

    Frustrating VPN Double NAT Issues

Thank you so much for your comments, very interesting reading and I'm sort of getting a feel for the inconvenience already. The significant drop in speed and higher latency has already surprised me a lot. You mention paying extra is the only guaranteed to work feature, can you please explain...

    Frustrating VPN Double NAT Issues

I recently purchased a NordVPN basic plan, which I intended to use on my Asus RT-AX88U router with configuring OpenVPN using the routers VPN Fusion setting. The reason for this was to ensure the gaming consoles and PCs in my home had VPN protection, at this point I would mention that I am...

Recommended 8 LAN Port Router For Sky Gigafast

Hi All Quick query that I'm hoping to get an answer to. Can any of you kind folk tell me if there are any 8 gigabit LAN port routers that work with Sky UK broadband? Preferrably the router would have a 1.8GHz quad core CPU as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

General Asus Router CPU Access Point Query

Many thanks for the reply and helping me understand this query better, much appreciated. At least I now know that upgrading would not lead to any great benefit, if at all, and that I should stick with my RT-AC88U as my access point.

General Asus Router CPU Access Point Query

Hi Everyone I just want to know if a routers CPU performance affects internet experience when the router is in access point mode? As an example, I use a Draytek Vigor 130 as my modem which is connected to my Opnsense router which obviously handles all routing tasks. The Opnsense is then...

RT-AC68U or RT-AC86U Buying Advice Needed

I think you’re right you know, the phrase is ‘don’t mess with it if it’s not broken’, so why should I be considering a new router right now if the 56U is working as well as it did from day one, and shows no signs of failing. I think I’ll leave it for now! I only considered the 86U due to the...

RT-AC68U or RT-AC86U Buying Advice Needed

Above all that has been said, I still would prefer the AC86U over all of them, but I don’t think I can justify spending £150 ish on a piece of equipment where I would be using only a fraction of its capabilities and features.

RT-AC68U or RT-AC86U Buying Advice Needed

That’s actually a fair point, I hadn’t really thought about the situation in those terms. The only thing I don’t want to do is miss out on a good deal with a router that has similar capabilities as my current 56U. I’m not saying my 56U is going to die on me anytime soon, it could well keep going...

RT-AC68U or RT-AC86U Buying Advice Needed

Ok, well many thanks for all your responses, I do appreciate them. Its not made my decision any easier unfortunately, some saying save money with the 68U, some saying go for more performance with the 86U. I guess it boils down to what I need, and I can only base that decision on the 56U I’ve...

RT-AC68U or RT-AC86U Buying Advice Needed

Many thanks for the reply. So in your view there’s no point in opting for the AC68U, even though it will be around be £100 cheaper for me to buy?

RT-AC68U or RT-AC86U Buying Advice Needed

Hi All I’m currently looking at upgrading my trusty, well used Asus RT-AC56U router to something with more performance. I had set my sights on an RT-AC86U, however a friend of mine has an accidentally bought, brand new RT-AC68U that he said I could buy off him at a significantly reduced price...

Gaming Lag Using Asus RT-AC86U With Merlin Firmware

I guess we can rule out DNS servers too, as I've tried Google, OpenDNS and ISP DNS servers and the lag occurs with all of them.

Gaming Lag Using Asus RT-AC86U With Merlin Firmware

Ok, I think I can rule out router problems, the lag is happening with the AC5300 now too. I guess as you said it seems like more of a game server, DNS server or PC issue that's the culprit here! I'll probably connect the AC86U back up now and leave it for a while, see if the problem goes away.

Gaming Lag Using Asus RT-AC86U With Merlin Firmware

Seems like the intervals are about every 2 minutes, no more than that. Just about to test the AC5300 out, I'll let you know the outcome.
