[ANNOUNCEMENT] Asuswrt-Merlin 386_x devices are no longer supported

Finally. Why? Because our master can focus on new devices only. Time to move on. For our master and for us. Thank you my master.

Migrating from a VDSL 50/20 to Fiber 1000/300 - advices needed

No hiccups here, running with 1000/200. No QoS ever needed, 4 average users in house (youtube, video calls, browsing, streaming...), Main router in ground floor, mesh node in first floor. Still a good router in 2025, you do not need anything else. Maybe just another node/AP if your house is a...

RT-AX88U Pro vs GT-AX6000, why GT is much cheaper?

Yes and no. RT-AX88U PRO is basically identical to GT-AX6000 hardware wise but without a second USB (2.0) port. RT-AX88U non-PRO has 8 LAN GbE ports (NO 2.5 GbE LAN & WAN!) and a bit weaker CPU (1.8 GHz vs 2 GHz). WIFI capabilities are the same with all 3 of them.

Asus BT8 as router + two XT9 as Nodes?

It should but give it a try yourself. I had my previous generations combined; wifi6 router (GT-AX6000)+ wifi5 node (AC68U) and it worked great.

ASUSwrt-Merlin connection to modem as Access Point and/or Bridge

First thing first: what ASUS model do you have? As I can see, it already has Asus Merlin installed... A config like this is generally a REALLY HUGE missed opportunity. There is also a really big chance, that your router has way better wifi capabilities than your ISP modem. If you already have...

RT-AX88U Pro vs GT-AX6000, why GT is much cheaper?

No. GT is not missing anything. It is just an older model than AX88U Pro, that is all (so theoretically longer support?). Apart from the look, I personally find my GT more useful because it has 2 USB ports and 88U Pro has only one. Other than that, basically the same hardware.

    Has RT-BE92U "wrong" CPU?

Newer buy a new router if you plan to "upgrade" it with Merlin FW without checking which models are supported at THAT EXACT TIME. 2 reasons: 1. You get Asus Merlin support already on your way to the store getting it. 2. The forum won't get flooded with such questions.

Possibilities to trigger storage ejection remotely? (a more graceful hard shutdown/reboot)

Create DDNS profile on the router and install the Instant Guard and ASUS Router app on your phone. Connect to your router remotely via Instant Guard and run ASUS Router app and you can also eject USB attached storage to it... https://www.asus.com/us/support/faq/1044340/

https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/flint-2-gl-mt6000-bug-reports-collective-thread/35608/2412 Check here. Over 2300(!) posts in not even a year. And then the threads on openwrt forum just keep on coming... Mediatek does not seem so reliable after all... Don't see a thread with so much trouble with...

Wow. Just... WOW. Kudos to Asus for supporting this router for so long. TP-LINK, you reading this?! Would be interesting to follow such an example, right?!
