What next after rt ac68U ?

New Around Here
I have used asus rt ac68u so far but it has lost support asus merlin. I am thinking about buying a new router. I am looking for help with the purchase. Which model do you recommend? I am mainly interested in at least 2 years of asus merlin support. The router will secure the home network. 2 TVs (tv streaming netflix, prime, hbo max,) 1 PC for strictly esports games, 2 laptops for work) + 1 playstation 5 console. I also care about maximum security and privacy. I have a 1gb/1gb connection but I think that next year I will increase it, both laptops and TV connected by WIFI, console and PC connected by cable. In addition, there are two phones on Android. Of course at a fairly decent price. Thanks

If your budget allows it, I'd think about wifi 7 "be" series asus routers like rt-be86u or rt-be92u if you need 6GHz radio. Second doesn't have Merlin support yet, but I think it's just a matter of time.

The RT-ax88u pro has a 2.5Gbps WAN port (as I'm sure others in the AX line do as well) for your ISP package speed upgrade.
If you start getting into faster, I'd encourage investing in more capable/flexible hardware than consumer/SOHO all-in-one units

I'd not count on it being supported, its an entirely different SoC than the supported BE models, which all so far use the BCM4916 iirc. It also doesn't have the best stream arrangement, 3x3 on 2.4 and 2x2 on 5/6 bands.

@kamil2233: If the AC86U has still served you well so far, an AX86U Pro would be a two generation step up and can be found for less than half the cost of the BE86U. I got an open-box one manufactured in 2024 that I'm playing with. GT-AX6000 or AX88U Pro if you're serious about going past 1gb/1gb soon as they have 2x 2.5gbe ports.

Same as kjoshj I recommend AX86U Pro. Recently upgraded from AC68U to AX86U Pro, got it on sale for €130.
I was planning to get a WiFi 7 router, BE86U, but it was twice the price of AX86U Pro and it's lacking 6GHz band.
BE92U has 6GHz, but the antennas are not removable and no merlin support. I wouldn't buy a router with hope for future merlin support which may never come, it matters what it offers now.

AX86U Pro comes with 160Hz channel bandwidth, my iPhone 15PM connects at 2400 Mbps.
I'm limited by my ISP plan of 1 Gbps, I get speeds of 920 Mbps on my phone.
