5G Data SIM unit as secondary connection via USB on RT-BE92U?

I can get mobile data connection working if I use a phone connected to the USB port, but I'm not getting a wired connection in this place probably for a while and am going to get a data only SIM and was wondering if things like this : https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZTE-U10S-u...-dp-B0DC6W8C6F/dp/B0DC6W8C6F?tag=smallncom-21 will hook up in the same way, or will I just have to either get another phone with 5G support, or use the SIM router as my actual router? although I really need a wired connection somewhere for Unraid.

Thank you.

Seems like the device you are looking at has USB port for charging only and can serve wireless clients only on 2.4GHz band. If you have a spare phone and confirmed working with your router just get a data SIM card. In this situation go for reliability, not speed. Keep in mind you may not be able to run any open to WAN services since most mobile operators don't allow incoming connections.

Would this work if plugged into the WAN port on the RT-?

Feel like it should work fine.

I'm just going to buy this. Looks like I should be able to ethernet it into the RT- and use it in a modem-only mode. fracking expensive though.

The one you asked about before deleting your post and replacing it with this TP-Link model was 5G with Fast Ethernet ports. This means up to ~94Mbps to Ethernet connected device anyway. Watch all the specs and not only 4G/5G connectivity to mobile operator.

I’d have to agree with this recommendation.

I’ve experimented with LTE/4G USB Dongles tailor made for this purpose and while I eventually got it working it’s been a bit hit and miss and you need to make sure you get one compatible with your region.

If you do go that route there’s a couple of main types, the ones that have 4G/LTE together with their own Wi-Fi network (so essentially mini router-like capabilities). On these if you can you’d possibly have to disable (or maybe ignore) that Wi-Fi capability to see if the LTE part worked. These are by far the most common dongles e.g. HUAWEI E8372h-153 (I had one). The 153 part might be different for your region…

The other main kind are the LTE only ones like the E3372h (there’s also an s variant which apparently more natively interfaces with your router but is a bear to setup). I had one of these too.

For both I had to set up the new SIM card in a phone first as it was by far the easiest way to do so.

So given the above a phone is … just easier for a temporary use case; unless you have such an animal and just want to experiment.

I believe all you’d need to do then is just select USB as primary WAN … which you’re probably doing with your phone anyway.

If the one above works well additional router may not be needed. The built-in 2.4GHz radio may provide enough range @20MHz channel with about 50Mbps speeds and the LAN port can do about 94Mbps. Good enough temporary solution until ISP situation is sorted out. Seems like nice compact size device and is not expensive.

Yeah I mainly need just a static connection for things like eg; Ring Doorbell so they don't disconnect when I leave with my phone. But I'll still use that TP-Link dongle as a modem only with the RT-Be92u because I need more advanced lan management stuff, dhcp things, and amtm would be good to have again.

Your choice. With this product you are paying high price for the router part and you won't be using it.
