DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

Wow. I hadn’t heard about this. Thanks for sharing. Sigh…time to ditch 3rd party resolvers and go back to my ISP’s DNS for now.

DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

I looked at their leadership team, read their privacy policy, and read up a bit on who they are, etc. but nothing is jumping out at me. What should I be concerned about?

DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

I’ve switched to CIRA (Canadian Shield). Giving them a try. I like the fact that all my DNS queries stay in-country instead of being routed to the US (or worse…half way around the world 🙂). So far, so good. My pings are better than they were with Quad9. They’re almost as good as my pings are...

DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

These two are pretty good: https://www.dnsleaktest.com/ https://www.dnscheck.tools/

DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

I heard back from them. There was a routing leak in Asia that started yesterday. It’s now resolved. They had to shut down the KG POP and they’re still investigating how it happened. I just ran a dns leak test too and I don’t see KG anymore either. I see the usual Toronto and New York servers...

DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

I can confirm there’s a problem with Quad9 and Rogers ISP. I’m now also seeing KG-IX in my dns leak tests. I’ve contacted Quad9 support. Will provide an update here when I hear back.

DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

You should not be routed to Kyrgyzstan. Contact Quad9 support. They need to look into this.

    I saw that too but… https://ipinfo.io/AS61399/185.211.231.0/24

DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

https://www.quad9.net/service/locations/ That’s very strange. I’m also with Rogers and always see WoodyNet. I’ve never seen Rogers routing to locations outside of Canada and US (sometimes they route to the New York Internet Exchange). Can you post a screenshot of how you have your DNS settings...

DNS pointing to a Kazakstan server: anyone seen this?

That IP address belongs to KG-IX, an internet exchange / transit provider. Quad9 lists KG-IX as their server location for Kyrgyzstan. So if that shows up on a DNS leak test, then your ISP is routing you to that Quad9 POP. When using Quad9, you’ll never see “Quad9” in a dns leak test. Instead...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

@sfx2000 In my ongoing quest to optimize my router settings, I came across this post. Sorry to revive an old thread. I didn’t want to start a new one and I’ve found your posts and comments very helpful while lurking this site. Would setting the multicast rate for the 5GHz band to OFDM 6 be of...

    5GHz channel bandwidth - "20/40/80" vs "80"

Lol. Same person. I logged into the site from a different device when I created this post, and then replied from my phone. I forgot that I already had an account when I created the new one. And I didn’t realize I had logged into my original account from that other device when I created this...

Difference between these 2 MU-MIMO settings?

@sfx2000 I had reached out to Asus support regarding this and they finally replied back. They told me that the “Multi-user MIMO” setting is for AC only and the “OFDMA/802.11ax MU-MIMO” setting is for AX. But I’m not so sure I believe them because the agent didn’t know what I was talking about at...

    5GHz channel bandwidth - "20/40/80" vs "80"

Thank you both. Like I said, I’ve already locked the channel to 149. As for channel width, I like the idea of the router dynamically adjusting based on congestion and noise but I also like the idea of locking it down. Decisions decisions! :)

Difference between these 2 MU-MIMO settings?

UPDATE I’ve been doing some testing…nothing crazy…just some speed tests from various devices (iPhone 14, WiFi6 Lenovo laptop, and WiFi5 Dell laptop). For some reason, I’m not seeing any signal range or throughput benefits with AC/AX beamforming enabled (under the 5GHz pro settings) on either of...

Difference between these 2 MU-MIMO settings?

Ah ok. That makes more sense and I can see why Asus combined them now. Nevertheless, I’ll keep both of those options disabled (but with beamforming enabled) as Tech9 suggested. Thanks.

Difference between these 2 MU-MIMO settings?

Thanks again. That’s currently how I have it configured.

Difference between these 2 MU-MIMO settings?

Hello. I have an AX86U Pro. Can someone please explain the difference between the two MU-MIMO settings under the professional tab for the 5GHz band? Is the first one for AC and the second one for AX? If so, I feel Asus messed that up by combining the second one with OFDMA…meaning it can only be...
