Alternative to NextDNS - that works with and without merlin FW

Just as an FYI, You can use NextDNS without running any scripts. They have options for DOT/DOH/Linked IP which covers pretty much any device. I use Merlin with DNS-over-TLS and it works great.

Has anyone been able to block ProtonVPN on Asus router?

You could also look at the "System Log - Active Connections" and just block them as they show up. Should be pretty easy to spot.

Noob Question About ISP’s and MoCA PoE Bonding Blocks

I don't blame you for not trusting Mediacom, we had a nasty experience with them over a similar situation. When we moved into our house we signed up for just their internet service and used antenna for over the air TV, as that fit our needs just fine. Several YEARS later they conducted a random...

Noob Question About ISP’s and MoCA PoE Bonding Blocks

They probably just want to ensure the appropriate filter is installed to prevent you from receiving basic cable TV broadcasts as you are no longer subscribing to that service.

My USB drives keep dying with my AC86U router. What is reliable brand?

Always had good luck with Kingston and Samsung USB drives. Sandisk products were very good until a few years ago when their quality and reliability really went to crap.

    Upgrade from RT-AC68U

I can highly recommend the AC86U or AX86U if cost allows. Some users have reported issues with the 86U but I have not experienced any issues at all. Both have been as stable as my trusty old AC68P which also served me well for several years.

News Trend Micro: Cyclops Blink Sets Sights on Asus Routers

I think the key phrase is "Publicly available". I would be willing to bet Asus is fully aware and already working to address the vulnerability.

Which DNS Do You Use? And other newb queries.

OP, I don't know what features you are looking for/needing but I've been using NextDNS for quite a while. Been very reliable, easy to setup, option to log and download logs if needed, good choice of blocklists for ad filtering, ability to configure different profiles if needed and some good...

300 feet in my neighborhood, near line of sight

I would look into these to connect the two properties and then use whatever router you want on the other end.. They should be able to punch through light tree coverage. Worst case you could always mount on a pole such as to clear the trees if needed. nanostation-loco5ac

    The mystery of online gaming.

It's possible, depending on the DNS server being used that you are being routed to a data center which is geographically closer to you, this could be one possible explanation.

    Remote Router Reader?

Absolutely, I have assisted users in this way multiple times. Just use the remote support tool of your choice (RDP, Skype, LogMeIn etc) to establish a remote session so you can access the GUI securely from a browser on their machine and you are good to go. Another option is to walk the user...

    The Uptime Contest

Approaching 48 days and not a single hiccup. 4 hard wired devices and numerous clients connected via 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. These routers are rock solid when configured correctly.

any point to setting USB port solid state drives for "spindown"?

When it comes to performance, the read/write speed advantages of an an SSD are wasted when connected as USB storage to the router. You would be better of investing the money in a regular drive of much higher capacity.

A few questions about the RT-AC68 firmware

You can use the AiProtection>DNS-based Filtering options to force specific clients to use a certain DNS server, regardless of what the client is configured to use.
