    Trouble with network services filter...

overall I am pretty disappointed with the way the network services filter works. Tried blocking other sites by keyword. Works some of the time and not others....

    Trouble with network services filter...

Still digesting this advice... Not sure how to do the deletion and addition remotely. Maybe using plink from windows or piping input to bash as described here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/305035/how-to-use-ssh-to-run-a-shell-script-on-a-remote-machine Does the router run bash? Just...

Apologies Jack, I was unfamiliar with the concept of a code block. Will try that next time.

    Trouble with network services filter...

sorry for the delayed replies. Sometimes rebooting my router sends my cable modem into a tizzy. Well, this time it seems to have worked. Fired up the game and couldn't connect to any servers. Turned off the"Enable Network Services Filter" and then I could connect again.. Turned the filter back...

    Trouble with network services filter...

I thought about that, so I actually decided to block both the source and destination for those ports, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Wireshark shows the source (an IP address that is not mine) using the ports I am trying to block. At any rate, I can block the ports both on the source...

    Trouble with network services filter...

Thanks Colin, your understanding of the blacklist / whitelist is how I had original thought it worked. Well, rebooted. Powered it down for a long time, then back on. Wireshark is still showing connections to ports that appear to be blocked via my settings. I am at a complete loss. Product just...

    Trouble with network services filter...

My guess is it has something to do with the "blacklist" or "whitelist" as the instructions on the "network services filter" say: Black List Duration : During the scheduled duration, clients in the Black List cannot use the specified network services. After the specified duration, all the...

    Trouble with network services filter...

Here is a better capture from wireshark with a focus on ports... Looks like whenever the source is not a 192.x (my internal network) the src port is 27031. Traffic flowing great. But, best I can tell, my configuration should be blocking this.

    Trouble with network services filter...

well. I used wireshark to see what is going on. Here is an example of some data I sa So, I updated my firewall to include blocking UDP port 27031 as that seems to be the port used by the source. Still, wireshark shows the traffic going through. Not sure why network service filter is not...

    Trouble with network services filter...

OK, updated to the latest stable: Firmware:380.68. Parental controls are off. Have the network services filter set as shown above, and as best I can tell from everything I have read those are the current ports needed to play CS GO. Still plays fine. Going to look to see if there is a way to...

    Trouble with network services filter...

Trying to experiment with blocking ports to prevent Steam / CS GO. Tons of threads on what ports to block, but blocking them seems to have no impact. I really only should need the ports for the destination side, but that wasn't working. Any hints?

    Force Google SafeSearch

Interesting. That seemed to do it. I turned of DNS filtering, but set the WAN DNS to the opendns servers and that seemed to work in conjunction with the safe search settings. Awesome, and thanks for the great advice.

    Force Google SafeSearch

Ok. I imagine that would have the desired effect, except it wouldn't force filtering. Meaning if someone wanted to change their DNS server to something else, they could bypass the filter?

Oh and @L&LD, thanks for the quick reply, and apologies for the new thread / cross post. Happy to delete one or the other.

forcesafesearch and dns filtering with opendns not working...

apologies... I should consolidate. Wasn't so much as impatience, but thinking I should have not hijacked the other thread and made a specific new question. Perhaps I should delete the comments in this one or the other one? Sorry, noob = me

    Force Google SafeSearch

I thought the local CNAME would be enforced on the local network over what the opendns is setting... Opendns describes how to setup this up here: https://support.opendns.com/entries/57304954-How-to-Enforcing-Google-SafeSearch seems like they think it should work...

forcesafesearch and dns filtering with opendns not working...

Hi all. Trying to provide some basic filtering in our home. My goal is to get opendns filtering working and ensuring that forcesafesearch is used for google search. I can do both, but not at the same time. what I have done: 1) In my /jffs/config/dnsmasq.conf.add I have added...
