Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

OK, must be cable. I moved the EA-66 to another location and used a different cable from the wall to the unit. Now I show 1 GBps. So either the patch cable or the cable in the wall must have a bad wire connect.

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

One other dumb question. On the EA-66, it is showing 100 Mbps not 1 Gbps...This is in AP mode. Why would it show this? I have a gigabit switch attached to an N66U router.

    N66U: inSSISer RSSI's

I have been looking to buy a laptop with the 6300 or the Killer 1103 - can I ask what laptop you have? Did you find many choices with 3x3 wireless?

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

Thanks. I will try it. Dumb question, but did you make the settings in repeater mode or adapter mode, and then switch it to AP mode?

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

In some wireless adapters, isn't there a setting to force aggressive switching to the strongest wifi signal? The default setting is very passive and causes the laptop to "hang on" to a weak signal.

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

Is your laptop wireless card 3x3? I am not seeing anything close to those speeds. I have Comcast and can get 120 MBps LAN to my desktop. My laptop (which is older) maybe gets 23 mbps wireless (but this is on 2.4). My iPad on 5.0 gets 23 mbps as well. That is on channel 161 from the N66U...

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

Thanks. Interesting question for you about how clients react when SSID's are same. For example, on my iPad and Windows laptop - if I set the SSID's the same, will the clients actually think these are the same networks? Do they see the MAC addresses of the router and/or AP? Right now, of...

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

Thanks. I have 2.4 set as channel 1 on the N66U and channel 11 on the EA66. However, on 5.0, channel 157 is set on the N66U and but the EA66 is forcing me to Auto channel and Auto mode (not allowing N-only). Also, I can't uncheck b/g protection box on the EA66 when I can on the N66U? Firmware...

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

Another issue. Running inSSIDer, my N66U 2.4 is steady and strong. The EA-N66 is full of peaks and valleys. I am running the latest Merlin firmware update. How do I get a more steady signal from the EA?

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

OK, I have this finally working. I do have an issue with the wireless settings on the N66U not reflecting the same parameters as the EA-N66 with the exception of the channels, which I purposely have set up differently. Why would the N66U allow 40 MHz on 2.4, but the EA-N66 will only allow 20...

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

There is more (you can tell this is driving me nuts). I finally got networks going on this. I had disabled DHCP client for some reason. However, it appears the EA-N66 does not broadcast 2.4 and 5.0 concurrently - you have to choose which one you want at any given time. It is easy to switch...

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

The odd thing is...when I initially set it up, inSSIDer showed the EA66 was working. And it had the same SSID as my N66U router. I had two 2.4 networks up on the two different channels I had set them at. Also, does anyone know if the EA-N66 will act as an Access Point on both 2.4 and 5.0...

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

    OK. How do I get the EA66 to accept the same settings as the N66U? Right now, it will not. I have the N66 as 2.4 -- N-only mode (no b/g protection) channel 1 40 MHz 5.0 -- N-only mode channel 157 40 MHz I tried to set EA66 as 2.4 -- N-only mode (no b/g protection) channel 11 40 MHz 5.0 --...

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

OK thanks. Let me try a different approach. You have dead spots in your WiFi coverage at home. You have an N66U in your basement that you cannot move. Hooked to your cable ISP modem. WiFi hits most of the first floor but not the 2nd. You do have cat 5e running from the back of the N66U to a...

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

Tim, thanks. Am I understanding AP mode correctly? Should I be in Repeater mode with the set up I have? Any clue why inSSIDer is showing the EA-N66 is not broadcasting a signal?

Need Help- N66U with EA66 as Access Point

I am confused. I have been told many times an AP can use same SSID. That allows for seamless roaming. I am on the N66U wireless network on the first floor. I walk up to the 2nd floor and client grabs onto the E66 network.
