    Slow 2.4GHz speed

Thanks- how can I check what channel is being used? I have set the router to 20Hz but I can switch back to 20/40. I don't live in a super congested area.

    Slow 2.4GHz speed

So would you say I switch back to a single SSID between the 2.4 and 5GHz? I don't really need separate ones- just thought I'd experiment to see the speeds and reach.

    Slow 2.4GHz speed

I have an AI Mesh setup with AX86U+AX82U+AX82U with wired backhaul. recently split my 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks with different SSIDs. However, the 2.4GHz network has become quite slow. Where I used to et about 100Mbps up and down on it, now I can barely get 60 down and 30up. The 5GHz...

    AX86U + AX82U - Can the 82U be the primary?

I recently picked up an AX86U and an AX82U. I'm using the AX86U as the primary router on my house's ground floor as that's where the ISP's box is. But we have all the bedrooms on the upper floor and that's where I'd like the better WiFi range. Is there any disadvantage to making the AX82U as the...

    Mixing RT-AX86U with ET8

Ok- so an update. I overwrote the Merlin firmware with the stock ASUS firmware and did not change any settings. Lo and behold- the XT8 showed up for setting up as a node! Possibly a Merlin firmware issue?

    RT-AX86U admin shows factory settings

So a manual reboot fixed that but my node config is gone. Going to do a full reset today and set up again from scratch. For a full reset, just follow ASUS' guideline?

    Mixing RT-AX86U with ET8

WPS is enabled. I switched if off and back on but that didn't help.

    RT-AX86U admin shows factory settings

I had set up my AX86U and everything is working fine. But when I try to log in to admin today, it's as if the router has been factory-reset. It takes me to the screen to set up the Wi-Fi connection and my ISP etc. But the weird thing is that the router is working fine with my SSID working and...

    Mixing RT-AX86U with ET8

Th Thanks. I tried this already but doesnt help. The unit definitely gets reset as I can set it up as a new router (it creates thar new WiFi network after a reset) but my AX86U just can't locate it when I try to add it as a mesh node using the app or the web UI.

    Mixing RT-AX86U with ET8

So I picked up an XT8 and I cannot get it to mesh with me AX86U- it just doesn't find it when I try ro set it up as a mesh node. I can set up the XT8 as an independent router but not as a node to the 86U. Both are running the latest firmware versions with AIMesh 2.0. The 86U is on Merlin. Any ideas?

    Mixing RT-AX86U with ET8

I've recently picked up an RT-AX86U to begin replacing my current Mesh system. Ideally would have liked to use WiFi 6E but there is no merlin support for it and maybe whenever that comes, I might replace the RT-AX86U. For mesh nodes, I am thinking of a few things. My first choice would be the...

NextDNS but skip it on a couple of devices

I've gotten an RT-AX86U and have set it up with Merlin. I want to add NextDNS to it but there are two devices on the network that use SmartDNS Proxy for accessing content from different regions. Will these devices with their manual DNS continue to work or will NextDNS force them to go through...

    Wireless Access Points

The max throughput is on the lower side on one AP and also plenty of issued with Samsung and UniFi APs (Unifi's forum has lots of threads on this) so looking to mix things up and would like to go with an 802.11ax AP

Move back to a consumer router

Loving it so far. Super stable with zero reboots and no speed loss with DPS enabled. I have a 500/100 connection. I've set up a group for each of my kids and can easily block social, browsig, videos etc. for them. I have also routed some ports through a VPN on the network which is working well...

    Wireless Access Points

I've got the Firewalla Gold router connected to my ISP's gpon and a Unifi POE8 switch. The switch powers Unifi APs at my home that are now starting to show weaknesses. I am going to be keeping the router and switch but start replacing the APs and would ideally like ones that can support WiFi 6e...

Move back to a consumer router

@Smokey613 - I totally get where you're coming from but the difference between the UX of ASUS/Merlin and FWG is night and day. What you're trying to hack to achieve on ASUS is already built-in with FWG and with a polished UI that someone like me who is not a networking guru, can get around with...

Move back to a consumer router

So I managed to pick a used Firewalla Gold and what a breath of fresh air! I've only had it for two days yet so I can't talk about the reliability but the UI and features seem pretty much everything I was looking for. PBR currently works on IPs but Apps based functionality is expected in the...

Move back to a consumer router

Thanks @Xentrk - I found an old ASUS AC86U and will also start working on that. You mentioned you gut WireGuard working on it- would love a nudge in the right direction for that!

Move back to a consumer router

Thanks @Xentrk and @L&LD - I will look into both ASUS and Firewalla solutions. I don't need the WiFi bit but looks like the other things check out nicely. Can you also share which WireGuard sevice you used? I would like to try it on my pfsense box and see what results I'm getting. Also, is there...

Move back to a consumer router

Thanks for pointing me towards this. I had read up on their smaller devices a year or two back and had seen generally favorable reviews. $400 is quite a steep price but I will read up more on it.
