AT&T residential fiber's "Passthrough" mode and public IPs...

Mm...no, I can see the public IP inside the gateway (it starts with a 76) so I think it's set up correctly (my router also sees the same IP in its main configuration page). But you said I need to escalate to Tier 2 to get AT&T to issue a new IP to my network?

AT&T residential fiber's "Passthrough" mode and public IPs...

I guess the combined unit. The fiber line comes into an SFP on the gateway and the gateway has a couple RJ-45s for the internal network. I just run its Ethernet to my router's WAN port, though. The exact model (as referenced in the gateway's internal webpage) is a Nokia BGW320-505.

AT&T residential fiber's "Passthrough" mode and public IPs...

Here it's an ASUS ZenWifi AX XT8, firmware v3.0.0.4.388_24621.

Any feedback on ASUS GT-AX11000 PRO Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_34715

I'm using that on mine, I haven't had anything worrisome to report on as of yet.

AT&T residential fiber's "Passthrough" mode and public IPs...

Does anyone understand how these work together? Is it my router that's sending a DHCP request to AT&T to get an IP address lease or is it still the gateway sending the DHCP requests and simply passing the IP address it gets back to the router? I tried to get AT&T to refresh my public IP address...

How do you use the Hurricane Electric (what was tunnelbroker.net) DDNS function in the firmware?

Well I'm not even sure that was in-scope with what I was trying to do. All I wanted to do was use their ability to capture my ISP's currently assigned IPv4 address and associate it with my domain name. I just wasn't sure how to do that with HE's interface. Apologies if I'm being obtuse. This...

How do you use the Hurricane Electric (what was tunnelbroker.net) DDNS function in the firmware?

Is there like a configuration guide for how to properly map your personal hostname to their DDNS service? It seems like this is the last free DDNS option for people with their own hostnames before I have to start paying...

Late to the Squarespace domain cutover, need a new DDNS solution...

After doing some research I think I'm just going to try to figure out how to make Cloudflare work. I need to migrate my domain but then I'm going to have to switch out my stock firmware on my GT-AX11000 Pro to the Merlin software so I can install a DDNS script. If I get this working I guess...

Late to the Squarespace domain cutover, need a new DDNS solution...

So I haven't really been paying much attention to this Google Domains/Squarespace cutover and now it caught up with me because one of my IPs changed and I didn't realize Squarespace doesn't have DDNS services so my attempt to VPN back to my residence was met with no joy. Since I was using my...

I just want to say the RT-AX56U is a pile of crap...

So this is the endgame of this thread. The router, despite now being wired to the next closest AiMesh node, fell back into its horrid "1.5 Mb/s" mode where anything connected to it was barely usable (like cannot even load the admin page for the main node). While I'd love to know what causes...

I just want to say the RT-AX56U is a pile of crap...

I guess I'll run it over the Ethernet backhaul. I don't think this provides any functional difference over just running a wired switch to the actually-working AiMesh node (I'm more concerned about the stuff wired into it than what wifi access it's providing to the rest of my place) but, eh, one...

I just want to say the RT-AX56U is a pile of crap...

I did buy it used on eBay, admittedly. I've ridden it as long as I can take it, it'll be getting ripped out and replaced with a 5-port switch (I could just use as an AiMesh node across an Ethernet backhaul but I'm questioning if that's worth it since I feel like the practical reason I use it...

I just want to say the RT-AX56U is a pile of crap...

As an AiMesh node in my network this thing barely functions. Devices trying to connect to it get horribly hobbled connections and/or no valid connection period and the wired devices on it are either also randomly crippled or the thing seems to crap out trying to send large amounts of data across...

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

Well it's been a bit and at least for my experience the GT-AX11000 Pro has been rock-solid as the AiMesh root (and I didn't pay full price as I got a previously-opened box on Amazon). None of the nodes have dipped below 5 GHz and, in fact, I would say it's almost too good. Basically everything I...

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

Well I started with only two but that wasn't getting a clean signal either so I was assuming I needed something to bridge the hop between the two nodes. Also at this point, with JUST the root node and literally nothing else, my PC over Wifi 6 only gets around 200 Mb/s (it's in the same place as...

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

I did this based on the belief that the XT8s have crap antennas. This thing has antennas all the way around it so I can't blame the antennas on this one if there are 5GHz drops. The XT8 nodes were about 80 feet away from each other across a couple of walls (they're at opposite ends of a...

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

I did disable the Roaming Assistant thing. That does help but it isn't a consistent solution and it still kicks over to 2.4GHz. Anyway I got myself an AX11000 Pro at the earlier recommendation and will be converting the root XT8 to a satellite node. I had to disable Roaming Assistant on the NEW...

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

What are the notable differences between the AX11000 and its Pro equivalent? I see that it has double the number of LAN ports but besides that they're mostly similar?

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

Hm...so you replaced the main node. Problem I'm seeing from that picture is that router lacks some of the stuff I use on my XT8, particularly the VPN server, unless it's stored somewhere else.

I have had my fill of the XT8 ignoring the 5GHz-2 backhaul as an AiMesh node...

This problem NEVER goes away and I'm tired of fighting with it. I'm going to attempt a couple more things but I'm also looking forward at this point. Can anyone recommend an alternate router that works well as an AiMesh node? I liked the firmware fidelity I got from the XT8 as an AiMesh node, I...
