Wi-Fi 7 Multi Link Operation (MLO) discussion

“Qualcomm’s Vice President and General Manager of Mobile and Compute Connectivity Dino Bekis referred to multi-link capability as one of the core aspects of Wi-Fi 7 and suggested thinking of multi-link for Wi-Fi 7 as similar to how channel aggregation works in cellular networks.”...

Wi-Fi 7 Multi Link Operation (MLO) discussion

You’re asserting your opinion as facts. Stating that your opinion is logic and common sense implies that everyone else is an idiot. In the real world, people cite other sources to back up their assertions. They don’t cite themselves as experts.

Wi-Fi 7 Multi Link Operation (MLO) discussion

Enough do that it’s a billion dollar market in 2023. All of the Wifi 7 routers have been selling out constantly since April. TP-Link can’t ship them over fast enough, and I think their ASP is around $400 a pop.

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

The listing on Amazon US for the RT-BE96U first went up on August 16th. I’m optimistic based on the Taiwan pre-orders and FCC filings that the GT-BE98 is coming very soon. Don’t know why it has taken a year though, considering the similarities.

It seems to be coming from ASUS Deutschland. It is a preorder from what I can tell. Unless AndyD has a shipping notification.

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

You’re both wrong for continuing to argue. Let’s bring things back on track. It’s out of stock again. What was the original price and what is the new exorbitant price?

    Hello, in need of opinion

That seems typical since you’re using a cable modem. For lower ping, you’d need to go to a fiber solution.

Wi-Fi 7 Multi Link Operation (MLO) discussion

The terminology you’re using is a bit weird, but I think I get your concerns. It depends on firmware and which MLO mode is used, but the way to think of it is all three bands are connected simultaneously, which gives you much greater reliability than Smart Connect, which switches between 2.4...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

But which routers are using it? Asus has at least been forthcoming about their 2.6GHz clock speed, but no one else has stated anything about their CPUs. I haven’t seen anyone crack open a BE95 from TP-Link to find out, understandable considering the cost.

Wi-Fi 7 Multi Link Operation (MLO) discussion

This doesn’t make any sense at all. Signals on different frequencies will not “contaminate” your wifi. Smart Connect sucks. MLO is a far better implementation of it. You get additional frequencies that will lower latency, with additional protection from random signal loss that occurs. It looks...

    RT-BE96U Tri-Band

I’m more about the faster CPU, doubled RAM, and 10G ports. Wifi is good, but 10G Ethernet is better. Also looking forward to his forthcoming review of the RT-BE96U.

This is from TP-Link’s website, but I believe it’s written into the 802.11BE draft docs.

Wi-Fi 7 Multi Link Operation (MLO) discussion

From what I recall, MLO has multiple operating modes and one of these is Simultaneous Transmit and Receive (STR). It allows for using 1 radio (ie 5 GHz) for upload and 1 radio (ie 6 GHz) for download as a valid combo, which is effectively a full duplex connection as you postulated.

Wi-Fi 7 Multi Link Operation (MLO) discussion

I was referring specifically to quad band MLO, which will require 4 radios and a whole lot of processing power. Qualcomm really sees it as the best way to lower latency, more so than to boost bandwidth. But most MLO implementions will be tri band since you already have those radios. It’ll...
