Securing work computer on home LAN

...it should work the same. Plug a laptop into the switch (one of the VLAN 501 ports if you didn't set them all to 501), it should get a 192.168.101.x IP. It should not be able to ping the router (192.168.101.1) or access the GUI. It should not be able to ping or otherwise access anything on...

Is static route broken on RT-AX88U and Merlin 386.1?

I believe that 192.168.101.x and 192.168.102.x are now used by the guest WiFi networks in 386.1.

    Asus AIMesh Guest network issues

Many thanks to everybody that pointed in the right direction: VLANs. I am using two Asus RT-AX1800U in AiMesh config with two guest wlans (one 2.4GHz and one 5 GHz). I hope that it will help everybody: here is my TP-Link TL-SG108E switch config

    Client List Woes

Even though you are not changing the IP address, when you click Apply is still tries to validate that field as though you had. Hence the error message (yes it's dumb). Theoretically clicking the Refresh button (or rebooting) should work although there are plenty of reports here that say it...

AC68U and AC1900P are proxying DNS even when DNS is not enabled on router -- bug or something I can force?

Maybe just an unlucky choice of addresses. If you are running a 386 code base, ASUS has 'reserved' 192.168.101.x and 102.x addresses for use by the first guest network (closed source, so not sure everything they may be doing even if you aren't using the guest network). I'd try a different...

    IP Allocation/DHCP Server Issue

Hello Colin. So the 192.168.101.#'s are for devices on the guest SSID? Is this the expected behavior when connecting a device to a guess SSID, a random IP at 192.168.101.#? I just noticed that even the DNS IP, which are handled by the router itself, is 192.168.101.1 This is starting to look...

    Device stuck on wrong IP

The first guest SSID on 2.4GHz is 192.168.101.*, the first guest SSID on 5GHz is 192.168.102.*. The second and third guest SSIDs on either band get the normal 192.168.1.x addresses. Check that the device is connecting to the correct band.

Guest Network has no internet access unless I enable access to intranet

Most likely a DNS failure on the guest network.. When using Guest 1 the clients are assigned IP's in the (2.4 GHz) 192.168.101.x or (5 GHz) 192.168.102.x range. The DHCP server for the guest clients is then set to 192.168.101.1 or 192.168.102.1 . My guess is that, when running the VPN client...

so i've been running on this for a week some thoughts.....

i confirmed it works. I picked up a old 3860-cg and 2960G switches for lan networking since my apartment is wired but they didnt set it up for connected ports so i just made it connected. :) for what its worth though the firestick dongle for ethernet kinda sucks it only does 10/100 and im only...

Solved IPv6 Native with Prefix Delegation does not provide LAN side IP addresses in any 386 Build on RT-AX56U

...The Asus guest networks on the 386 builds are really messed up as compared with the old 384 code base. So: Guest Network 1: uses 192.168.101.x and 192.168.102.x IP range, optimized for AIMesh and does not support IPv6 (using Guest Network 1 is probably behind all my router crashes) Guest...

Need some help with my home network

Ai-mesh was working fine, but the guest network wouldn't show on the ai mesh nodes. I only had guest network access on the main router. I even had sync to ai-mesh activated. So I would have used it if I could get guest network access.

Manually Assigned IP Address not Same on Client List after Merlin 386.1_2

192.168.100.x and 192.168.101.x are now used for clients connected to the first guest WiFi networks on each of the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. If you want your guest clients to use your DHCP reservations they need to connect to guest networks 2 or 3.

AX58U Merlin - Is it possible to subnet?

...moot - the reason you're getting a weird IP is due to the dual untagged VLANs above. Fix that, and you're all set. DHCP will give it a 192.168.101.x IP. There is really not much reason to set a static IP in the guest VLANs since they are isolated and can't be accessed except by another...

    Release RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.43129

You're right, only guest DHCP clients. Must be a recent change, because I use a different class of IP addresses (Class B, not Class C) and the other DHCP clients are correctly assigned that range, and previously, guest DHCP clients would get an IP from the range I specified in DHCP server. Guess...

...on the main screen. When attempting to rename the client or change it's icon, however, a different IP address is displayed (i.e. 192.168.101.x). Attempting to save the changes generates an invalid IP address error unless I modify it to use the primary network's prefix. It would be nice to...

How can Asus AC66U_B1 provide two different subnets?

Or, if you are running 386 release firmware and connecting the tablets to Guest Network 1 they will be forced to a 192.168.101.x or 192.168.102.x address.

    AX86U 2.4GHz broadcast question

...DHCP? Is it running a local VPN client connecting to the main office? Is the work computer connecting to your main WiFi or to a guest network? Devices connecting to the first guest network "slot" on 2.4 and 5 GHz will get IP addresses in the 192.168.101.x and 192.168.102.x ranges respectively.

Question on Guests network ip range on AX86

Hi, I have just activated 2 guest network on 2.4GHz and noticed that: Guest 1 => clients get IP in the format of 192.168.101.x Guest 2 and 3 => clients get IP in the format of 192.168.1.x which is the same range as my main router Any idea why guest 1 has another way of configuring ? Thanks, GS

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 is now available

Started from scratch with 386.1 on my AC2900 and noticed the Guest network 1 thing (on both 2,4 and 5 GHz) is still there. Clients get IP adresses from resp. the 192.168.101.xxx and 192.168.102.xxx range and can't connect to the internet. Guest networks 2 are fine.
