    1.8g max on wifi and thats also half-duplex, the rest sounds ok.

    That is a the maximum speed for a single connection (wired/wifi), it specs lists 10g as total/combined, not for one port. Ea. you can have 9x1.3-1.8g connections (depending if the 10g port can handle this total load)

    Yes that can work (crossover cable between laptop and NAS) if you manually assign the laptop IP settings in a range you think it could be (and do that a few times for other ranges it might have been in), for this to work you need to really think hard what the subnet was you came from.

    If its only the drive which needs these requirements the type of NAS is not important, you can always buy an enclosure or new NAS to get to the data, so use the cheapest NAS for now.

    I understand, I've had the same issue on some other 32bit app, there I added second 32bit variables and incremented them once the primary overflows, on the display (browser) side the same 2 vars resolved via javascript (var1*var2 > 64bit var). Its a hack but this works.

    The nearly 2 year old firmware (RT-AC68U_384.17_0) I was running for nearly 2 years never had this issue, I still have 12 units on this version, none have this issue, neither other updated version who now run RT-AC68U_386.5_2 and all of them have this.

    DFS state is on the log page of the router not your macstuff. If DFS is not idle this can cut speed by half, if not more. Its on the same router page where you find noise and speed values.

    It states 1200mbs, thats not slow for 5g at 80mhz, that excellent! so we can exclude the wifi connection to the AP, must be something at the ISP side (WAN) or on your macbook. DFS state is on the same log page: It should be idle, zero time used.

    What are the signal levels? -> wireless log, noise and rx/tx & rssi values of a few devices. Is DFS state idle?
