SMB over VPN on fiber internet super slow.

Plenty of solutions to try: https://www.google.nl/search?q=optimize+smb+over+vpn Winscp over scp(ssh) would be the best option, smb was never designed for this. Eventhough I use smb over ssh for a robocopy session with a low mtu, this works for its purpose.

    CVE-2021-44228 - Log4j RCE 0-day

Once most common local places are known expect browser attacks, this ain't just a server problem, btw. I have seen experimental jndi attacks from april this year, ' jndi.portal', ' .......jndi...ldap', ' jndi-appconfig', etc. This ain't a new-new thingie. And as this remains to be used...

    Questions WAN 10GB Fiber connection

It might be shared as in VLAN's where on their (ISP) side they manage services per device which might be a device limitation towards dishing out VLAN's from the same shared device. If this is the case do find out what type of VLAN they use as some VLAN are not a true VLAN.

Make sure its 2.16 or higher.

    Cisco Firepower 1010

Agreed, I had the chance to test this with 3 cable connections, back to one for awhile now but it worked as Lawrence showed in his demo but then with real ISP connections. With 6 gbyte ports on a 5100 LAG can go to 5 for the WAN, though I have to admit I did not test anymore then 3. I do have 2...

A gigabit is 10(9th) or 1,000,000,000 bits. It is one-eighth the size of a gigabyte (GB), which means a gigabit is eight times smaller than a gigabyte. https://www.mixvoip.com/what-is-the-difference-between-gb-and-gb Iow. your 1gb(it) WAN download (getting typical these days) needs to go to 8x...

    Cisco Firepower 1010

As you can see in the reviews and I've tested this myself, you can aggregate 3 ports as WAN and get 3gbits throughput, Lawrence claims higher rates can be achieved with 4 port aggregation as that only maxes out halve a LAN port. Also remember 8gbits WAN = 1 gbyte LAN.

rt-ac5300 hacked with a persistent hack. how do i go about nuking the flash and starting over?

In any such cases a rescue may be better to start with, https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1000814/

pfSense is 'free', its up to you how you want to support it, your can load it with opensense and buy cheaper hardware. I don't run VPN's as vpn is a waste of CPU, I use a sslvpn gateway (ssh based) behind it which can handle 200x more then any crap vpn. If you want to live with cisco security...

Don't forget pfsense, Netgate SG-5100, Max Active Connections 4.0 Million and can be expanded. 3.6gbits aggregated WAN throughput (tested here up to 3.0)

AC68U Popular speedtest sites show full speed, but actually downloading files are slower than dial-up.

Using any QOS setting (and going back from it) may disable NAT Acceleration (CTF).

    Microsoft Teams connection drops

There is no Enterprise in LTSC, it's LTSB 2016, LTSC 2019 or LTSC 2021 (and all the IoT/Amd versions) The word Enterprise is part of the Pro range. Nb. I've never had any issues with Teams with QOS on or off, this may very well be an ISP issue and not a router issue.

How do you protect your home / small business from email-based threats?

A fool with a tool is still a fool. Ever since 1995 when windows 95 had a kernel with sandboxing capabilities I've been sandboxed ever since, but even before that with doubleDOS and Qemm from Quaterdeck you could sandbox programs (if you are familiar with the assembler and C+ api at the time)...

How do you protect your home / small business from email-based threats?

Sandbox everything that connects to the internet, yes its a pain to move stuff in/out a sandbox but it stops anything from automatically going through, refresh your sandbox daily. Use online multi tenant scanners for whatever you download. Zero trust is better then running anything under your...

    Guest Network IP

Isolation works per subnet but not between subnets, I prefer to keep guests to see each other and the gateway address which is on a different subnet while all other ranges are blocked. This is a clear Wifi/LAN separation and does not mix with guests who may be on the LAN. If anything else if...

    Guest Network IP

Use the firewall to block (guest wifi) access to any subnet (LAN), I posted a screen dump here somewhere how this will look like.
