State of the project - 2016 in review

Thanks for the continued support and updates on this firmware. You said you were surprised of the popularity because it is only an enhanced version of the stock firmware. Well that is the exact reason I love it. I think the stock firmware is pretty darn good. There was some specific things I...

    Advice on dual band repeater

Yes I disabled the fastlane and essentially had it mirror the 5ghz, then I added the 2g and configured that standalone without telling it that it existed on the original router. So yes the 2.4ghz would get fastlane performance. I can still pull my max Internet speed from the 5ghz in the furthest...

    Advice on dual band repeater

I ended up getting a ex6200 so I could put it up on a shelf. It does exactly what I wanted. Connects to the router only on 5ghz but then broadcasts 2g and 5g. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

Yeah i just turned the whole thing off for now. Might be better to just try browser based stuff and only block the sites I want. Most sites I feel are fine but some have really disrupting ads such that you can't even find the content you want. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

Ok, now that I have it running, some feedback. I noticed on some sites they are trying to pull in a lot of .js (javascript) files for animated ads. It does block them but the site itself gets stuck in a loop and the site keeps requesting multiple files over and over and over. I guess getting a...

I got it now, edited my post. I was missing the hash bang line

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

That seems to have done the trick. I was thinking about trying that but was trusting the info in the first post where it could all go to the same port. Oh I had the rules in firewall-start but they did not fire when I rebooted. I looked on the docs and then moved it to "nat-start". I have not...

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

Ok I got the pixelserv working. I have the certs in place. It works fine on http, but https I get this error below. Any ideas of what is going on exactly? I am running the Kg version on port 8080 only using args "192.168.1.1 -p 8080"

    Advice on dual band repeater

Well I am going to be right next to a Best Buy tonight and their site says both of those are in stock and the same price as on Amazon so I will grab one. At least if it doesn't work how I want I can just take it right back to Best Buy and not deal with shipping it. I hope it works good, that's...

    Advice on dual band repeater

Tim, thanks for the reply. Are you sure those two can do what I want? Using your lingo I would use the 5Ghz band as the BACKHAUL, all the time no matter what. But allow incoming connections on both bands (ideally with different SSIDs from the backhaul SSID) I posted this question on the EX6100...

    Advice on dual band repeater

Ok, little background. I know what I am doing, and very technical. I have a networking degree if that says anything. Have an Asus Ac56r router and love it. Building I live in is very over saturated with 2.4 ghz. About 20ft from the router through 2 walls I can barely get 1mpbs at peak hours...

IPTraffic Monitoring - Display manually assigned hostnames?

Yeah I agree on this. I had thought about doing it myself but have not had time to even get the code, read it over and get it to compile yet. Let alone figure out how to add that in. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    DHCP renew time?

I would try scheduling the openwrt router to reboot every day in the middle of the night. That would force it to do another dhcp query and hopefully renew the lease time. Or maybe there is a command to make it do just the query every 12 hours instead of rebooting it. Sent from my XT1080...

    DHCP renew time?

I noticed what he is talking about when I had a power outage. I saw others complaining about it before also. It's like the router can't get a IP from the modem, or refuses to try. I had to power cycle the modem again, and the router. So your openwrt router gets a new ip fine from the modem but...

Does AC68U and AC68P hang for anyone else?

Sorry can't help on the issue, but there is a command line tool someone made that will export all your configure settings and then set that back again after a reset. Works across firmware versions that require a reset. Do a search for NVRAM SAVE and you will find it. I have lots of DHCP entries...

    Pity the DNS-illiterate - CNAME + DDNS help s.v.p.

If I do nslookup from Windows command prompt I get the ASUS ddns and my IP. Can't really tell you anything else without knowing actual info to check myself. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Pity the DNS-illiterate - CNAME + DDNS help s.v.p.

You said you were trying to lookup mydomain.com though. Shouldn't you be checking the r.mydomain.com instead? If you have a CNAME for that and it still won't work reliably then I don't know. Works prefect for me with Namecheap and the ASUS ddns. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Pity the DNS-illiterate - CNAME + DDNS help s.v.p.

You can't query the root domain if you have no record for it. Only a query to the r.domain.com you setup would work at that point. You might have to park the root and then setup the cname. Do you have to have the root domain pointing to your IP? Only way might be a custom ddns script which I...

    Pity the DNS-illiterate - CNAME + DDNS help s.v.p.

Let it stew for a while. Sometimes if I am changing a bunch of things around I just let it sit overnight. Check out the tools on kloth.net also. I use that to test stuff from outside. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Pity the DNS-illiterate - CNAME + DDNS help s.v.p.

Yes you probably have to use a subdomain with the CNAME record. Just do something like router.domain.com or if you want to short, r.domain.com. BTW With the asus router and Merlins firmware you can have a custom DDNS script be triggered. But the CNAME is much easier and works great, that's...
