    Extending Network (DirectTV house)

    In tough spots like that I often use a pair of powerline adapters to get the signal to an AP (usually a router configured as an AP since they are cheaper) and it works well for anything short of full BluRay iso streaming.

    My 4 DIR-655 routers (3 are APs) each have 3 external antennae, and I have changed one out to a directional antenna to aim at my guest house -- works great.

    Sure, but with wireless 6 feet from the base station I get within 90% of the possible speed from my wireless devices using the same LAN Speed Test software. 6 feet apart on a single circuit for the 4205's and I get 20% of the rated speed. That's just too far below the advertised speed to be...

    Gigabit network, CAT 5 patch cables

    Is it advisable to upgrade my "collection" of old CAT 5 patch cables (2-20 ft.) to get the most out of all of my hardware that is gigabit and my long cable runs that are all CAT 5e? Thanks
