Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

OpenVPN should be somewhat faster and more secure (than IPSec), but as stated above it's not a native application. Getting a bit off-topic in this Diversion thread though. Meanwhile, MAN stupid YouTube ads are getting aggravating! Wait 5 seconds, click "Skip Ads," have ANOTHER ad pop up, wait...

    amtm amtm step-by-step install guide - L&LD

I've seen it every single login. Hasn't apparently affected anything. Dunno.

    amtm amtm step-by-step install guide - L&LD

FWIW you can also SSH from the Windows Command Prompt. Figured this out last week. But I've been using XShell for a few years now.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Based on the changelog and comments, I'm taking away that I shouldn't try to update an RT-68U *through* a (needed) OpenVPN connection while I'm away. Seems like too many things could go wrong and I'd lose the VPN server. Concur?

    Well now what?

No, sorry I didn't explain myself well enough. Yes, I set the laptop back to "automatic" and the router immediately issued an appropriate IP. So... as far as I'm concerned everything is (seems to be) fixed at this point. So, so weird. Still absolutely baffled as to how a weird static IP got...

General (simple?) routing question. (Port forwarding?)

Hey guys, great discussion and thanks so far! I tried MaziaBebop's static route but no success. Unable to ping 192.168.100.250 or access the app GUI at either 192.168.2.254:8123 or 192.168.100.250:8123. HOWEVER. Putting the RPi in the DMZ DID allow me to access it at 192.168.2.254:8123...

General (simple?) routing question. (Port forwarding?)

Happy to X-post in the Linksys forum as well. In fact, I did try Port Forwarding in the Linksys, but I'm still not sure how I would address the RPi from the Asus LAN. I tried http://192.168.2.254:8123 (web interface for the application on the RPi is @ :8123) and that didn't work any more than...

General (simple?) routing question. (Port forwarding?)

Hey guys. So from another thread you may have gathered I have a cheap Linksys router I picked up a few weeks ago. Anyway, I have it plugged into Port 1 of my Asus and assigned it a static IP of 192.168.2.254. Plugged into Port 1 of the Netgear is a Raspberry Pi I'm using as a little Home...

    Well now what?

WELL. THIS IS JUST TOO BIZARRE. One thing I didn't mention because it I thought it might be a symptom of weird signal from the router... my Ethernet IP kept showing up as 192.168.1.137. So I grabbed the Asus Firmware Restoration/Rescue program in a last-ditch attempt to fix this thing. Part of...

    Well now what?

OK - followed all of L&LD's steps. (Maybe?) slight progress. The 3200 will assign LAN/DHCP to things plugged in when it boots. Anything plugged in to a LAN port after boot does nothing. As before, the port light on the router comes on, but there is no network connection and the router log does...

    Well now what?

Will do! THX Not following you 100%, but you mean setting (for example) my laptop to a static 192.168.1.10? Nope. I guess it's worth a shot. I mean if WAN is connected to the 3200, it shows "Online," and I can connect wirelessly to the router's SSID and access the intarwebs via wifi. If I plug...

    Well now what?

Well. Update. Did a full M&M Reset. Wireless is working fine, or appears to be, but it still refuses to connect to anything wired. Very strange. You think it's a hardware issue?

    Well now what?

Just moved. Set up my 3200 at the new place. Worked for a couple of minutes. I wanted to login to the GUI and realized my laptop was connected to a Guest network so I hooked up a CAT6 to one of the LAN ports. "Connected, no internet." That's weird. I realized my phone (which had...

What addons are you all using?

Diversion & Skynet are no-brainers. Also running NTPMerlin just for kicks.

Suricata Suricata - IDS on AsusWRT Merlin

Thanks! Two follow-ups: 1) I thought Suricata and Skynet were incompatible? Or was that worked out in the previous 20 pages somewhere? 2) What is the purpose of the 3100 if everything is running on the 3200? (Actually, I think it'd make more sense to run everything on the 3100, it has more...

Suricata Suricata - IDS on AsusWRT Merlin

There have been about 22 new pages since the last time I read this thread. Wow! My new implementation idea is to put Suricata on my surplus AC3100 and put it between the Internets and my regular router like: INTARWEBS | | AC3100 + Suricata | | AC3200 +...

OpenVPN server stuck w/ spinning "Initializing settings..." wheel

Hm. I wonder if the other VPN types available on the router would work for the same purpose? PPTP/IPSec. Further research required. -------------------------------------- Edit: marginally satisfying update not worthy of thread bump. Rebooted router. Again. This time seemed to work. This...

OpenVPN server stuck w/ spinning "Initializing settings..." wheel

REALLY? Man, that's a bummer. I literally just set up this router brand new a month ago. At the command line, df suggests that /jffs is only 7% full. (3608 of 45544 blocks).

OpenVPN server stuck w/ spinning "Initializing settings..." wheel

Nope. This one is an RT-AC86U at my in-laws' house. Trying to set up a VPN here so I can access US-only websites + Skynet/Diversion when traveling overseas. Edit: now that 3100 is surplus... thinking of setting up Suricata on it and putting it outside the 86 for IPS. :p

OpenVPN server stuck w/ spinning "Initializing settings..." wheel

So. Trying to set up a new server. When I hit apply, I of course see: "Initialinzing the settings of OpenVPN server now, please wait a few minutes to let the server to setup completed before VPN clients establish the connection." I am now amused to see a typo burned into the firmware, above...
