    Anyone get OpenSSH (entware) working?

Cool! I guess that's a little bit less kludgey, even though it still relies on a line of sed to do something that chage should be able to do "the right way", but I've tested it and updated the wiki. Thanks.

    Anyone get OpenSSH (entware) working?

Seems to be a longstanding problem for some of us, and no one has figured out why. I have observed that streaming audio through the router makes it worse, and streaming video through the router makes it much worse. Some people have suggested that lack of entropy is the root cause, which pushed...

    Anyone get OpenSSH (entware) working?

I was hoping to find the utilities to do it the "right way", but opkg utilities (eg shadow-chage, shadow-useradd) are looking for files in the wrong directory and can't follow symlinks. The files you're referring to don't exist anywhere on my system.

    Anyone get OpenSSH (entware) working?

    Anyone get OpenSSH (entware) working?

I got it running. I tried posting a tutorial, but this web-site is choking on certain full-paths being part of a post, making it essentially impossible to share it here. I used the contact-form to try and reach the site admins, and even that was choking when I tried to share examples of the...

    Changing LAN MACs?

If Merlin used to support this functionality, that seems like it's not an Asus/Broadcom issue.

    Changing LAN MACs?

    Seems like a security issue.

    Changing LAN MACs?

That only changes the WAN interface MAC.

    Changing LAN MACs?

So, if I move from one home to another, and I don't want my wifi to be mapped between the old location and the new location, this firmware can't help me? Snowden says don't use Wifi, I explain why

    Merlin: RT-AC68U? R7000? Something else?

Now I know. I'm still looking for hardware suggestions.

    Merlin: RT-AC68U? R7000? Something else?

My RT-AC68U is having problems: About every day and a half it needs a reboot; a firmware update and a bunch of resetting didn't help. It seems time for a replacement. I'm using a lot of what Merlin offers, and I'm not sure if I should replace it with another AC68U, or load Merlin onto an R7000...

What is this "wan0_xipaddr", and why is it showing up in the GUI?

Router: ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC68U 384.15_0 My ISP has me double-NATed, so I've got both an internal IP address and a public IP address. I can see my internal IP address with: nvram get wan0_ipaddr I can see my public IP address with: nvram get wan0_realip_ip But, when I check the "Internet...

amtm amtm - the Asuswrt-Merlin Terminal Menu

I understand and appreciate that, but nonetheless it's a "gotcha" the may deserve mention in the documentation.... eg, when changing the router's DNS settings via GUI, be aware of this.

    Adventures in random: /dev/urandom

Is ssh-ing into a router a real-world problem? How about initiating ip connections? Or disk access? Or generating SSL keys soon after booting? Or forking processes? Sure, most people won't notice a huge benefit, but most people also won't notice the negligible footprint or resource use... And...

    Adventures in random: /dev/urandom

And here's an example of "random" done wrong - The patterns should be obvious - https://www.random.org/analysis/ Of course, an entropy source that provides good quality entropy, but it's constantly blocking, is a different kind of bad, which will cause different kinds of problems.

amtm amtm - the Asuswrt-Merlin Terminal Menu

I won't hold by breath waiting for the browser developers to fix a bug (or is it a feature?) that may only affect edge cases like this. It seems the better option, if it's feasible, would be for a fix/workaround that assumes the browser will screw it up. That's why I mentioned different...

    Adventures in random: /dev/urandom

Advocating? Not at all. As an empirical observation, it seems that most/all routers are effectively headless servers.

amtm amtm - the Asuswrt-Merlin Terminal Menu

This does seem to be the problem. Now it makes sense that the problem seems to have started after installing dnscrypt, then changing some settings on the GUI's WAN page, which messed up the PPPoE login credentials, and replaced them with the router's login credentials. Looks like a "gotcha"...
