    What are these country codes?

I'm poking around the internals of my N66U, and I found a list of country-codes. Most of them are self-explanatory, eg "US", "EU", "GB" and explicitly defined by the command:wl country list Then there's a bunch that are not making sense to me:#a, #e, #r, 0A, 0B, 0C, J0, JE, MF, Q1, Q2, X0, X1...

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

@ColinTaylor - Your response is the closest I've seen yet to a reasonable and helpful one. Thanks for that; I'm going through it now. Of course I'm just trying to make my devices compliant with local regulations, but it seems to me that instead of living in the US and being subject to US...

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

To clarify, I should point out that the above quote seems 100% reasonable at face value. I'm not trying to challenge that policy. What I'm not understanding how it's "in violation of manufacturer terms and conditions, government or regional laws or regulations or author copyright" for me to buy...

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

Honest question: How is it a "violation of manufacturer terms and conditions, government or regional laws or regulations or author copyright" to buy a router from overseas, and change its settings to make it compliant with local standards? nb where I live, parallel imports are 100% legal. And...

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

That's kind of what I was suspecting the answer was pointing towards :( And on that basis, well... Like I said in my previous comment ;)

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

I mean, if there's good reason for being that hostile to the idea, I'm willing to listen to those reasons and reconsider my purchasing decisions. eg, I'm willing to consider the possibility that I'm wrong. But if there there's only hostility and dogma, then I'm inclined to think that reason is...

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

Is there a thread that gives an overview? Maybe there's a compelling argument not to buy a router from overseas... But "policy of the site owner" is not convincing.

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

Why are these forums averse to buying routers from overseas and then making them compliant to local standards? I'm not looking to boost power, or do anything else that's illegal. The way I see it, I'm rolling the dice. If I win, I save 30% of the cost. If I lose, warranty support is unlikely...

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

Just some nvram tweaks? Looks like I'm back to a 30% discount. I didn't know about this until just now when I started looking around, but even my N66U gives me a nice response to the command:wl country list And this command:nvram show | egrep country\|ccode\|regulation_domain\|reg_mode

Well, that's good to know :)

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

I was assuming that Merlin would offer a way to manually select the correct region, for anything involving frequency and power. Would that not be the case for the AC68U?

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

My N66U was direct-from-China, slightly used. Not sure if it was a refurb, or an off-lease, but it's been fine. Any particular concerns about grey-imports, aside from warranty support?

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

Where I am, it looks like the RT-AC66U_B1 would be very hard to find, and only very slightly cheaper than an AC68U. The AC68U runs cooler than the N66U? I typically see my N66U around 55-60°C, with load averages near zero.

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

So it looks like the AC68U is the cheapest one that does more than I need. Are there any other routers/firmwares from other brands that I should consider? I'm seeing that one of my least favourite direct-from-China websites has fan-kits for the AC68U. Is that a completely unnecessary accessory?

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

AiMesh would be cool, but I don't need it now. Otherwise, aside from wanting the Traffic Analyser, what I'm currently using is SSHD 4x SSIDs PPPoE authentication to ISP via username/password Am I correct in understanding that anything "better" than an AC68U might add speed, but wouldn't add...

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

Yeah, then it would be the Traffic Analyser that I want. Since numerical order obviously doesn't correlate to newest, latest, and greatest, what models should I consider as "AC68U upwards"? Are there any features from the N66U that I might lose in an upgrade? Are any of the stock features not...

Upgrade from RT-N66U - Need traffic monitoring

I've got an RT-N66U that I'm happy with, running Merlin 380.70. What it lacks is useful traffic monitoring and stats. Ideally, I want to be able to see what clients connect to what servers/web-sites, and when they're connecting. Bonus if I can store that data on a USB-drive, so it's persistent...
