ASUS RT-AX68U vs RT-AC68U. Worth the Upgrade?

I have updated my table adding the AC86U. As Tech9 says the RT-AX68U and RT-AC86U share the same dual core CPU so wouldn't be my first choice since they lack some raw power. L2 cache is just 256 KB and RAM 512 MB compared to 1 MB and 1024 MB on the RT-AX86U. If you want a quad core router on the...

ASUS RT-AX68U vs RT-AC68U. Worth the Upgrade?

So I am looking to upgrade too and I have been looking for a comparasion table betwen the RT-AC68U and the AX alternatives which I couldn't find so I built one myself see below). In my case I don't need the fancy wifi features of the AX range since Ubiquiti for my home Wifi and I am happy with...

Private IP routed to the internet

Thanks, I somehow missed that. I have changed it to No now. Having said that this option should be applicable for WAN addresses not a private address like 192.168.100.1.

Private IP routed to the internet

So my internet connection was down today and when I tried to hit my cable modem after I rebooted it I got redirected to an Asus error router page (http://router.asus.com/error_page.htm?flag=3, see image). How can I disable this? I do not want my router to redirect any traffic. If the internet...

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.3 is now available

Found this issue as well on but it's an Asus bug, not a Merlin bug. Constant error in the logs in 384.3 when wireless interfaces are off: https://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?board_id=11&model=RT-AC68U&id=20180105204644626&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.3 is now available

Hi, I have updated my RT-AC68U to 384.3 today. I experienced some login issues (see this thread) but these are now sorted. The other problem I got is that my DDNS doesn't seem to be updating. I am using no-ip.com and Let's Encrypt. Here is how much DDNS looks like. when I click on Apply I get a...

Ummm I did a reboot from SSH and now the password works. Very weird... Any logs files I could look into to see what was wrong?

    Updated RT-AC68U to 384.3 and can't login

I saved the previous configuration before I enabled HTTPS and Let's Encrypt. Any way I can apply that from the SSH console?

    Updated RT-AC68U to 384.3 and can't login

Yes, I am trying from a different browser (IE) which doesn't have the LastPass plugin. This sounds like a problem when enabling HTTPS and Let's Encrypt. The router booted on 384.3 and login to the Web GUI was fine. I lost access after setting HTTPS and Let's Encrypt. I also tried to login using...

    Updated RT-AC68U to 384.3 and can't login

OK I wasn't doing the service restart_httpd but it still doesn't work. Here is what I did: admin@ASUS-RT-AC68U:/tmp/etc# nvram set http_passwd="zaq1xsw2" admin@ASUS-RT-AC68U:/tmp/etc# nvram commit admin@ASUS-RT-AC68U:/tmp/etc# nvram get http_passwd zaq1xsw2 admin@ASUS-RT-AC68U:/tmp/etc# echo...

    Updated RT-AC68U to 384.3 and can't login

Umm OK I just changed the password via SSH and I still can't login via the Web GUI: admin@ASUS-RT-AC68U:/tmp/etc# nvram set http_passwd="zaq1xsw2" admin@ASUS-RT-AC68U:/tmp/etc# nvram commit admin@ASUS-RT-AC68U:/tmp/etc# nvram get http_passwd zaq1xsw2 admin@ASUS-RT-AC68U:/tmp/etc#...

    Updated RT-AC68U to 384.3 and can't login

Hi, thanks for the reply. The password is h55@Wf^gGsSWZG8dXb%r so it's 20 characters and has special characters (I will obviously change it after I get the login working again). Any ideas why it was working before if it was 20 characters long with special characters?

    Updated RT-AC68U to 384.3 and can't login

OK just did some Googling and found that I can see password via SSH doing "nvram get http_passwd". I can confirm that the password is what I got on the LastPass record and has not been changed but the Router won't let me login with it. So it looks like it's an issue with the admin interface...

    Updated RT-AC68U to 384.3 and can't login

Hi, I have updated my RT-AC68U to 384.3. I could login after the update and then went to setup Let's Encrypt. The HTTPS Certificate was issued correctly (I downloaded the cert to see it). I then enabled HTTPS for the admin page on port 8443. I can now see my router Admin login page over HTTPS...
