    BQ16 Pro Quad Band

Does this mean Qualcomm chipsets > Broadcom chipsets and if so, why is Asus sticking with the latter? Even if AsusWRT is optimized for Broadcom hardware, they did get the Qualcomm-powered RT-AX89X working pretty well in the end after some major hiccups. (mine still works fine particularly with...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

Ah well, progress always comes with a higher price tag. These consumer grade routers are getting more expensive than the prosumer grade stuff from the likes of Mikrotik and Ubiquiti and that's including the APs you'll have to buy to get Wifi. Anyways, some interesting news on the client-side...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

From what's written, the only difference between the regular GT-98 and Pro models is the bandwidth. 25 Gbps vs 30 Gbps. Other specs such as the number of ports (4 X 2.5G + 2 X 10G) and number of bands (2.4Ghz, 5Ghz-1, 5Ghz-2, 6Ghz) remain the same. Wonder what the price difference will be like.

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

I just took a look at the BCM4916's specs and wow, you weren't kidding... They've literally maxed out the interfaces at 2 X 10G WAN/LAN, 2 X 2.5G LAN and converting the 4 X 1G LAN ports into another 2 X 2.5G LAN ports. Guess that's that then.

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

I guess Asus probably did that to keep costs under control. Having a third 10G port and four 2.5G ports will likely push the per unit price closer to 900 bucks.

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

Looks like my guess was right. Asus did revise the specs of the GT-BE98. They removed the third 10G port and replaced the four 1G LAN ports with 2.5G ones. Not really an upgrade IMHO, more like a 'side-grade' to keep up with TP-Link's BE routers which all have 2 X 10G ports (inclusive of the...

For those of us concerned about a lack of Wifi 7 clients to go with the ROG GT-BE98, Asus just launched the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, both which appropriately support the Wifi 7 standard. Tech specs for the Ultimate listed here: https://rog.asus.com/phones/rog-phone-7-ultimate/spec/

Sorry misread your post and gave you the ETA for the RT-BE96U. I'm pretty sure they had the tech specs page for the GT-BE98 up a month or two ago and they pulled it for some reason. As stated above, I'm guessing it has to do with a spec bump. They'd probably want to give the RT-BE96U some time...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

I didn't disagree with what you've said. Mentioned previously that they tried to roll out 10Gb to the home back in 2016 and got a dismal take-up rate as of end-2022, hence we'll see if history repeats itself. Last week, I was talking to a network engineer at one of the other ISPs offering the...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

Sounds compelling. I'll probably shell out a little more to buy the (M3/4) MacBook Pros when they get Wifi 7 then.

According to Asus USA, the ETA is May 19, 2023. https://shop.asus.com/us/90ig0890-ma1a0v-rt-be96u.html

Sure, I do get where you're coming from in some aspects. Xiaomi may not a brand name in the US, but it does have a decent reputation in Europe and Asia for putting out quality electronic appliances that don't break the bank and fit neatly into an ecosystem, similar to what Apple has albeit on a...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

Hope the 2.6Ghz Quad Core CPU'll provide better 10G wired speeds than the disappointing GT-AXE16000 and the venerable RT-AX89X. If not, I'll probably go down the OpenWRT route with this mini PC that has 2 X SFP+ ports and 3 X 2.5G ports and just add the RT-BE96U as an AP...

    Beta Asus RT-AX89X_9.0.0.4_388_31185 Beta

I've a feeling the RT-AX89X may be reaching EOL soon....I've been getting random reboots and Wifi disconnections for the past 2-3 months. Probably time for an upgrade to Wifi 7.

Xiaomi's 13-Series smartphones are Wifi 7-ready and are already out in the global market place for sale. The interesting thing is they'll receive an OTA update that'll enable their Wifi 7 features once the standard has been certified...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

I believe that's where MultiLink Operation (MLO) is supposed to fix the range issue in theory. Wifi 7 clients connect to the AP/router on all three bands simultaneously (2.4Ghz/5Ghz/6Ghz) and switch among them automatically, depending on where the client is in relation to the AP. Kinda like an...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

I think Sonic offers 10G Symmetrical PON but that's just in California for now and they only provide the ONT. Yeah, there's nothing much at the moment that'll let you max out 10Gb fiber, unless you run multiple BitTorrent downloads/uploads, and 500/500 is really all you need for streaming...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

I can personally attest to that... 10Gb fiber broadband was rolled out nearly 7 years ago where I'm from and all the big ISPs jumped on the bandwagon back then. Unfortunately, the take-up rate was so poor over the period (due to cost and addition gear needed to handle the higher speeds) that by...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

I think that WIFI 6E designation on the GT-BE98 is an error on Asus' part. Both are supposed to be Wifi 7 routers with the GT-BE98 being the flagship. https://edgeup.asus.com/2023/wifi-7-explained-learn-how-next-gen-wifi-takes-your-network-into-the-passing-lane/

Just noticed that tech specs on the RT-BE96U are up on the Asus webpage. https://www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-gaming-routers/rt-be96u/techspec/ While those of the GT-BE98 have disappeared. https://rog.asus.com/networking/rog-rapture-gt-be98-model/spec/ Not trying to...
