    GT-AXE16000 Owner's Thread

Consumers who buy bleeding edge tech will nearly always end up beta testing the product. I bought two AXE11000s when they were launched early 2021 and was stuck on the original launch firmware for most of the year as any software upgrades immediately dropped the range of my 5Ghz band to near...

Logical upgrade to go from AC86U to AXE11000? Change my mind! ;)

Think this may be the 'best' alternative you'll get at the moment... https://dongknows.com/tp-link-archer-axe300-quand-band-router-review/

    AX98X random reboots

Thanks. The RT-AX98X seems to be the only consumer all-in-one router that works relatively well with my fiber broadband at the moment. The AXE16000s were a bust...There's TP-Link's AXE300, but it has the same Broadcom quad-core CPU as the AXE16000 so that's probably going to run into the same...

    GT-AXE16000 Wi-Fi Speed is Slow w/Multi-Gig Xfinity

That's exactly what throttled wired speeds to a quarter of what my ISP advertised. Disabling it in my case fully returned it to what I got on my previous router the RT-AX89X. Asus told me they were working with TrendMicro, which provides the AiProtection suite, to come up with a workaround for...

    GT-AXE16000 Wi-Fi Speed is Slow w/Multi-Gig Xfinity

Got this reply from Asus Tech Support when I complained about wired speed issues. 'Dear Valued Customer, If you recently encounter limited speed acceleration, or unable to reach maximum connection speed, please try to disable the following features: AiProtection, Traffic Analyzer, Web History...

    AX98X random reboots

Funnily, the RT-AX89X worked for me in terms of getting close to ISP-advertised wired speeds with AiProtection enabled. The AXE16000s gave me barely a quarter of those wired speeds with the same function turned on. Seems to be a NAT/CPU problem on that router according to Merlin. So I returned...

Hopefully with release of TP-Link AXE300, Asus prices come down

As much as I love what Asus has in terms of custom software and more frequent firmware updates, more competition in the space will always be a boon for consumers. E.g. pushing down prices or giving you better value per dollar. The GPU space is one such example with Nvidia, AMD and now Intel...

Hopefully with release of TP-Link AXE300, Asus prices come down

There's a preview of the AXE300 on DongKnowsTech. Hardware-wise, it can go toe-to-toe with the AXE16000. It's in the software area where it loses out. https://dongknows.com/tp-link-archer-axe300-quand-band-router-review/#comments

Buffalo consumer routers - any good? Or alternatives w/focus on security & updates?

Buffalo released an AX6000 router with two 10Gbe ports in 2021. Same Qualcomm quad-are 2.2Ghz chipset as the Asus RT-AX89X I believe. Unfortunately, it seems to be mainly for their domestic market. https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B08SQ9NFN3/ TP-Link's pulled similar stunts with higher specced AX...

Third party SFP+ transceivers for the Engenius ECS1528P switch?

You could try this website. I've been using the Generic Compatible 10GBASE-SR SFP+ 850nm 300m DOM Duplex LC MMF Optical Transceiver Module on QNAP and Zyxel switches without any issues for over a year now. But if you want to be safe, you could always ask their Sales Support guys via phone, email...

ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000, wait for Zenwifi XT9, or something else (thick walls)

The workaround I used on my old ISP-provided router was a pair of TP-Link Powerline Wifi Adapters. Unfortunately, the power sockets at the other end of the house were located in a wall corner and adjacent to one of the bathrooms, which meant crappy wifi signals due to to interference from...

ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000, wait for Zenwifi XT9, or something else (thick walls)

For 50 bucks more, you get two XT12 units vs one AXE16000 and double your wifi coverage which is plenty for your place. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. Could always buy it, try it and return it if unsatisfied. That's what I did with the AXE16000s.

    GT-AXE16000 Owner's Thread

If you've looked at Mikrotik, maybe you can consider DrayTek too. About a 100-140 bucks more than the AXE16000 on Newegg and Amazon but hella more power...as in enterprise-class specs. https://www.techradar.com/reviews/draytek-vigor3910

    GT-AXE16000 Owner's Thread

The RT-AX89X has a quad-core Qualcomm IPQ8074 2.2 GHz CPU while the AXE16000 has the newer quad-core Broadcom BCM4912 2.0Ghz CPU. I suppose they went back to Broadcom as there were a ton of issues with the RT-AX89X when it was first released. It took multiple firmware updates and at least four...

    GT-AXE16000 Owner's Thread

It's apparently both CPU and software related. Asus is working with MicroTrend to find workaround on the software/routing side. You could check this out. Dong Ngo tested Sonic with both the RT-AX89X and AXE16000. https://dongknows.com/10gbps-internet-unlocking-super-broadbands-secret/

ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000, wait for Zenwifi XT9, or something else (thick walls)

In my case, one AXE11000 just about covers 670 sq. ft with concrete and brick walls. I needed another AXE11000 unit plus an RT-AX89X to cover the remaining areas of the compound. All with AiMesh and wired ethernet backhaul. I recently tried out the AXE16000 which comes with RangeBoost Plus and...

    GT-AXE16000 Owner's Thread

I'm on 10Gbps fiber broadband but on an active optical network though, so there's no ONT/modem in-between. I couldn't get more than 2.6Gbps wired ul/dl speeds on Ookla out of either of the 10G ports unless I turned off the AiProtection suite. Returned both units as my older RT-AX89X could give...
