    Asus AX89X still worth?

With the ET12 as an AIMesh node, it takes its functionality from the main router, in this case the RT-AX89X. Since the RT-AX89X is a dual-band Wifi 6 router, its AiMesh node, the ET12 will only function as a dual-band Wifi 6 router extension/node, meaning you can't use the 6 Ghz/Wifi 6e band...

Anyone Have Experience With These AX Consumer-Grade Routers With 10G Ports?

Hi all, Was wondering if anyone had heard of or had experience with these AX/AXE routers with two 10G ports not from the usual suspects? (Asus, Netgear, QNAP, Zyxel etc.) My recent less-than-stellar experience with the GT-AX16000s (from a 10Gbps broadband perspective) led me to return them and...

    It's teaser-time. Because why not.

Just a thought. I was looking at the LAN-Switch Control tab on the RT-AX89X and there is a NAT Acceleration function. Enabling that allows me to turn on Ai Protection and still get close to 10Gbps broadband speeds from my ISP. Perhaps the AXE16000 needs such a function as well. On current...

    Bufferbloat A+ Asus GT-AXE-16000 + AX-11000

Posted this in the AXE16000 owners thread: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/gt-axe16000-owners-thread.79334/page-11#post-782074

    GT-AXE16000 Owner's Thread

Another thing I can think of is that the AXE16000 does not have a NAT Acceleration function in the LAN-Switch Control tab if I recall correctly. Enabling NAT Acceleration on the RT-AX89X allowed me to turn on AiProtection and still have close to 10Gbps broadband speeds from my ISP.

Check out RMerlin's iperf tests on the 10G ports in this thread if you haven't yet. https://www.snbforums.com/threads/its-teaser-time-because-why-not.80019/page-4

    Bufferbloat A+ Asus GT-AXE-16000 + AX-11000

This is a problem with most consumer-focused routers. The CPUs in them don't have enough horsepower to handle multiple functions such as QoS, AiProtection, VPNs etc without throttling your ISP's broadband speeds. I don't think you can split CPU utilisation like what you've described above. I...

News WiFi 7 by 2024 for Intel equipped laptops.

It (Wifi 7) might be available on flagship smartphones by 2023. I think the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra was the first or one of the first to market with Broadcom's Wifi 6e chip back in February 2021.

Need advice on Very Slow Wireless G & N Speed on ASUS RT-AX89X Routers

On your first irritant, I think it's a problem across most newer Asus routers. I experienced the same 'devices frequently disconnecting' issue on my pair of AXE11000s in AiMesh mode and fixed it the same way you did. On the two AXE16000s which I recently got, the issue was compounded by the new...

Need advice on Very Slow Wireless G & N Speed on ASUS RT-AX89X Routers

For the RT-AX89X, did you try switching Wireless Mode to Legacy and disable 802.11ax/Wifi 6 mode on both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands? Also the Authentication Method to WPA/WPA2-Personal? Perhaps that may help with older/legacy devices.

Indeed. At that speed, I realised even use of the 6Ghz band/Wifi6E isn't necessary. Wifi has a ways to go before it actually catches up to wired ethernet. Hence, the decision to stick with the RT-AX89X.

    It's teaser-time. Because why not.

I don't think so. I just mentioned it because it worked for me and my use case while the two AXE16000s I recently purchased didn't, so I returned them.[/USER]

    It's teaser-time. Because why not.

On the RT-AX89X, enabling any of the VPN functions be it iPSec or Asus' InstantGuard would limit wired speeds to the +1.4Gbps range which seems to be an acceptable tradeoff given that the paid App-based VPN services I've used gave me about half that speed. So that only comes on when I need it...

    It's teaser-time. Because why not.

That's because we can't? Most ISPs including mine don't support 'pure router' mode anyway. In any case, I'm back on my RT-AX89X with the full AiProtection suite enabled and close to ISP-advertised wired speeds, plus zero wifi issues to date. That's good enough for me until Wifi 7 routers hit the...

    SFP+ router for home?

You could look at the Mikrotik CCR2004-16G-2S+PC. It seems to fit your spec requirements and costs about 500 bucks on Amazon. The CCR series are routers first and switches second and use RouterOS while the CRS series are switches first and have simpler routing capabilities. It can use both...

Sorry wasn't fully awake when I posted this. I'm guessing that a firmware update by Asus developers/RMerlin could boost the CPU performance on the router similar to overclocking your Intel/AMD CPUs.
