    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

changing the group key interval is for security I assume, practically speaking would using zero value be ok ? my main broadcasts are WPA3, but my guest broadcasts are WPA2 (for compatibility with older hardware).

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

thanks for the suggestion ... i am trying out both changes for each band, will see how that goes ... fixed channel group key = 0 for my info ... what is the purpose of the group key interval ?

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

on my end i was waiting for a good moment to go in and change my settings, to choose a channel manually vs. leaving it on auto. should i try your suggestion first ? or try both at the same time ?

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

the past day or so i haven't seen the wifi drop, so something seems to have improved while still on 388.1 fw

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

this latest fw is definitely buggy in "Network Map" view, it listed a wifi device that has left the network at least a few hours ago, and the connection type icon next to it was the one used to indicate wired connections ... several refreshes over the course of the hour and it finally disappeared.

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

that message i saw when trying to change the control channel is confusing ... already setup with WPA3 and it's asking if i want to switch to WPA3 (or WPA2 ??) ... anyone else get that ?

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

whilst going into router to select a control channel manually, i got this message, doesn't quite make sense ...

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

thanks for this advice ... could you add more detail about what you mean with wifi drops ? i think the wifi device remains connected when this happens .. not 100% about it -- i will check it again next time i experience the issue " .. consensus" .... is there another thread/topic about this ?

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

so far, the devices i noticed which experience the issue are on 5GHz, but haven't observed in more detail if other 2.4GHz devices I have are affected ... maybe the bands/channels were changed or adjusted by the fw update ? i did not have the issue with the previous merlin fw.

    RT-AX86U intermittent/random drops on merlin fw 388.1

recently updated my fw to the merlin 388.1 release ... have noticed several times throughout the day i am getting brief intermittent drop-outs on my devices ... appears to be router-side (not internet side), because i have some apps that monitor devices on my private network that change status...

when was the last signature update for your AX86U ?

just making sure that's the case and i wasn't seeing an unnoticed bug or issue. they tend to push updates a little more frequent than 1.5 months gap, even though i've seen such a gap before.

time scheduling and block internet access not working ....

was easy enough to turn on guest 3 and work with that. thanks again for the advice. now left somewhat concerned about that bug/issue with my work computer when it was connecting to guest 1. why hasn't asus plugged this ? doesn't sound like they would leave issues like this long standing.

when was the last signature update for your AX86U ?

my router has been on 2.284 (trend micro) for some time, since mid february ... i force it to check for an update often but nothing has been pushed yet. just asking if anyone has seen a newer update ? not sure that it matters, but i'm on merlin fw 386.5. some oddity with this new version is...

time scheduling and block internet access not working ....

just had a 2nd read at this ... does this mean that it's 'potentially' possible for a client to gain access to the LAN, when the Intranet Access feature is explicitly set to disabled ? true for any guest broadcast or just the 1st ?

time scheduling and block internet access not working ....

guest 3 + parental controls and block internet access is working ... thanks again for that advice ! if i can disable guest 1 without impact to guest 2 & 3 let me know so i can do that

time scheduling and block internet access not working ....

i'll give it a shot, thanks for the advice. i thought guest 1 would be a good pick for isolated devices, and it seems most compatible for some one-off's. for instance, one of my child's school chromebooks is able to connect to guest 1, but not guest 2, even though both broadcasts are set to...

time scheduling and block internet access not working ....

lately have observed some odd behavior and wondering if anyone knows why this would happen ... i have a windows pc that connects to my guest 1 wifi, this device gets assigned an IP and i can see it in the list of connected devices. i assigned a time parental control to block internet between...

AX86U Dropping on Ethernet and Wifi, Different Devices

i don't know how the guest broadcasts are treated by the router in general. i do know the first one is unique and it assigns devices IP addresses that are outside of my DHCP pool. other than specifically making sure that the guest network has ZERO visibility to the rest of my LAN, i didn't see...
