AX86U Dropping on Ethernet and Wifi, Different Devices

i haven't examined to see if i have packet loss with the guest network, but i am having this issue where the client connected to the guest network (the first one, 2.4GHz band) will drop off and when trying to reconnect to the same guest broadcast it will not reconnect. i tried rebooting the...

Parental Controls and Network Map have their wires crossed ...

those control policies that are created when i enact "block internet access" from Network Map are good in that they are created by the firmware automatically. looking in parental controls time scheduling section it's very basic .... it just has a top level enable/disable and a list of all...

    TS-453D questions

i agree. that's where i am weak, i admit. thinking about a 3rd drive that i can use for data backup and storage in different physical environment. i don't use any cloud services, don't trust them and would rather pay up front once and buy a suitable storage medium than be hostage to a...

    TS-453D questions

that's a fairly complicated setup .... whatever suits your needs i guess if you can manage it all in your head. i think my old mycloud used to use rsync, that was the backend process it fired up whenever i started a sync job. it's likely hbs3 also uses rsync. don't focus so much on it anymore...

    TS-453D questions

speaking of backups, not sure if you use HBS3 (QNAP’s dish) or another tool ? i recently ‘deployed’ (in my tiny home network … lol) the TS-453D which is my first take at a QNAP NAS and my second overall NAS coming from WD MyCloud EX2. i used to have the single-bay fisher-price WD MyCloud units...

    TS-453D questions

@sfx2000 one of the first apps i added was security counselor. run security scans occasionally and so far things check out good. SSH and Telnet are off as well. i changed the default HTTP port number. although i don't use HTTPS to login, it is enabled and i've not changed the default port...

Parental Controls and Network Map have their wires crossed ...

messed around with this a little using a clean slate, here's what i found out: 1. no rules or devices present in 'Parental Controls/Time Scheduling' ... clean slate, like a new device. 2. confirm 'Parental Controls/Time Scheduling' master switch is set to OFF/disabled. there is also an...

Parental Controls and Network Map have their wires crossed ...

that Block option looks good to me ... lol i used to mess around with setting chunks of time where they are/are not connected to the internet. my approach at home is that if they'd rather binge their tablets or other devices when they have chores/hw/etc. to do, then i'll just cut-off internet...

Parental Controls and Network Map have their wires crossed ...

386.4_0: if parental controls has filters setup for devices in time scheduling section .... even when the feature is switched off .... a device still shows up as blocked from internet access in the Network Map list. never been able to figure out the aweful layout of how Parental...

    TS-453D questions

@dosborne … thanks for this advice, im a member in the qnap forum as well and have been monitoring that myself. i think i already have all the checkboxes for security-sake. both at the nas and at the router, my lan is guarded well. concerning cloud and all that happy hoopla that is popular, dont...

    TS-453D questions

so i got the nas, setup and been running for little over a week … 8tb x2 + 6tb x2 in RAID5. that’s supposed to be 18tb decimal, the nas reports binary. created a static volume using all 4 disks. initially it came to me with QTS 4.2.something. i started setup and configuring using this...

    TS-453D questions

whats the story with 5.0.0 ? one thing that comes to mind, can i downgrade a QTS installation ? i think this NAS comes with QTS 5 out of the box so i take it that it is possible to go from 6,6,8,8 to 8,8,8,8 and just expand to gain an additional 6 TB later on. the qts user guide doesnt mention...

    TS-453D questions

sorry in advance for the loaded OP .... i'm doing a combination of reading the QTS user guide and research to find out more about my questions. another thing that i'm curious about is that if QNAP NAS devices can allow swapping some (not all) the disks in a RAID array: from: 6TB, 6TB, 8TB...

    Considering QNAP TVS-472XT - a few questions

been a while since this thread, found it since it's similar to a post i put up today .... if you already got this hardware you mentioned, I can chime in on the VPN aspect. I don't yet have the QNAP NAS I ordered (TS-453D), but I am aware QTS has a VPN feature. I've already setup a VPN on my...

    TS-453D questions

decided to buy my first QNAP NAS, migrating over from a WD EX2 NAS in order to get additional functionality. before i receive it and begin setup, have some remarks and questions about it. UPS: concerning QNAP NAS's in general, would most model UPS's work when connected to the NAS (USB) ? I...

managing a UPS over a network

thats interesting. how do containers work, or are they vm’s ? in theory, the ups agent running inside a vm on the nas would be a full-time, always on configuration so that i dont have to dedicate a physical computer to the ups. the ups agent works in a browser and it would need the local host...

managing a UPS over a network

there is one more thing i could explore, but ultimately am just going to roll dice and rely on my router’s vpn and emails from the nas when the power goes out i would access my private vpn to manually shut down tne nas. i guess to the credit of this pos wd brand, it does a good job notifying me...

managing a UPS over a network

i did a test and pulled the main to let the UPS do it’s thing, with about 45W total load the UPS ran for roughly 25 mins. but to my surprise and dismay – the EX2 – although it was receiving signals and registering them in the alerts on the dashboard – did not do an orderly shutdown after the...

managing a UPS over a network

i would only really care to focus on the usb comms between the ups and the NAS. a second ups can tag along as dumb and i would know its good to run the 40-50W load for a while. i was able to locate my ups.conf file, but its largely empty when i look in it using vi (screenshot). would i add...
