[384.8_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

I should make a correction here. the issue with alpha 3 might not be wifi. the symptom is the same momentary pause in my google home devices streaming, but I actually see that my hardwired computer download files stop at the same time. This is some really weird coincidence.

[384.8_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

@RMerlin great to see quick such turnaround on the alpha 3 for the 86u 32799 gpl, that was really fast. Unfortunately for me, whatever secret sauce Asus implemented to prevent random wifi drops with my google home streaming was not carried over in your latest alpha 3. So i'm back to choosing...

    ASUS RT-AC86U Firmware version RT-AC86U_3.0.0.4.384.32797

Strange indeed then. I just tried your 384.8 alpha1, and I get about ~80MB SMB transfer speeds from my W7 machine to a seagate USB3 drive on the AC86 compared to ~50MB on the official 32797 and 32799 builds.

[384.8_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

I have those set already, i also disable TX bursting and universal beamforming. And I always re-initialize when I jump from Rmerlin to official. the random breaks in the audio stream is one thing but when liveTV stop its very obvious. so my clients don't go unavailable, they randomly drop wifi...

    ASUS RT-AC86U Firmware version RT-AC86U_3.0.0.4.384.32797

@arthurlien I know RMerlin is a regular contributor, and was hoping that Asus would implement his cpu affinity update that boosts SMB performance significantly on the AC86U. Could this be looked at as a possible performance enhancement?, Merlin implemented it for quite awhile now without any...

[384.8_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

I was hoping that even though it has the ac86u binaries that the wifi stability fix was in GPL 32799. Unfortunately, this firmware also causes random dropout with google home devices and mibox3 during streaming. I know this is not a bug with Merlin's excellent work, I just wish Asus would use...

    RT-AC86U wireless noise floor variation

I agree this is expected to vary, what stood out was that the 2 units I had, was positioned the same place with the same channels. As I mentioned before a 3dB difference is essentially 2x the noise floor. I guess I should have ran some speed test, but I had already packaged the unit with the...

    RT-AC86U wireless noise floor variation

Also just an FYI based on your caption For ch 2 you have -40 dBm signal with a 56dB SNR, so your noise floor of your Mac's wireless card is (-40 - 56 )= -96 dBm

    RT-AC86U wireless noise floor variation

The readings I'm referring to is from the routers wireless log tab from the routers web interface (system logs). It measures/reports the level of the noise floor of the current channel on the router hardware

    RT-AC86U wireless noise floor variation

I have 2 ac86u routers and I notice that 1 unit has noise floor of -77dB for 2.4GHz band and -92dB for 5GHz band. The second unit on the other hand has -81 dB for 2.4Ghz and -87dB for 5GHz. This is with swapping the units in the same location set to the same channels. seeing that 3dB is equal...

    Frequent WIFI dropouts on 384.6

I loaded the latest official and it hasn't had the random drops with my google home devices, you can give it a try: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-rt-ac86u-firmware-release-3-0-0-4-384_32799.48842/

    Frequent WIFI dropouts on 384.6

I saw this too on my 86u with Merlin's 384.6. I notice my google home devices would drop out for a couple seconds randomly while streaming music. I loaded the wifi QOS patch version 384.32683 and there is no more wifi drops, but its no longer available...

[384.7_Alpha - builds] Testing all variants.

I switched over form the official asus firmware on the ac86u to this alpha 2 just to get better SMB performance (full reset). but I notice that my google home speakers intermittently drops the connection(break the stream for a few seconds) while streaming music. I rolled back to latest official...

    WebDAV client?

This would be very cool feature to have working. I do collaborative design projects and to have the design container files central for everyone to have remote access within the application (to a network drive) would be nice. On a side note, it seem asustor latest NAS package have this feature...

[Official Beta] AiMesh beta firmware for RT-AC68U/RT-AC86U/RT-AC5300/RT-AC88U

Is QOS working in the latest V18000 version for the AC68U? I put in the same setting I had for Merlin builds but my bufferbloat report is worse. I do like like the boost by approximately 20% in SAMBA read write performance from this build though.

Unable to log into Samba server with merlin firmware

Normally its not recommended to run beta firmware but I must say the latest AIMESH beta v18000 (thread link below)for my RT-AC68U has been stable for my setup and it has boosted my samba performance by about 20% over the current 380.68 builds...

[Official Beta] AiMesh beta firmware for RT-AC68U/RT-AC86U/RT-AC5300/RT-AC88U

Is NAT acceleration toggle disabled by design?, maybe AMAS disables the feature but even the toggle does nothing when I tried it

    bug report 380.68_0

Fair enough. All I was trying to say was that with the exact same config( settings and environment) the write speed to the USB drive, even on usb 2.0 port has decreased significantly from moving from firmware 67 to 68. I appreciate all the feedback, and since its only me we can close this...

    bug report 380.68_0

Yes, I notice that its enabled. But its enabled for both firmware, so that would logically mean its not the cause of the difference in speed. I also noted that i tested on USB 2.0 port that should not have anything to do with usb interference. In any case, if no one else experience a drop in USB...
