    Asus XD4 (zenwifi XD4) on AC88U

I didn’t mean to imply that you were...I would like to buy just one. I already have 2 XT8s.

    Asus XD4 (zenwifi XD4) on AC88U

It does look interesting. Where can you buy just one to add to an existing aimesh setup?

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

This may be very helpful. Would it be possible to write everything to a device on the network instead of a USB drive attached to the router? Thank you for this. All my devices have custom names and icons. Restoring that information is the biggest PITA when doing a factory reset.

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

I would agree. For me 25790 has been much better than 25524. The one caveat is that I had lots of issues when I used the GUI to automatically do the upgrade. Only after I manually downloaded the FW upgrade file from the Asus website and used the GUI to manually update the router and node did it...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

I’m not saying anyone needs to have manual ip’s and customs names and icons...but I do and that makes it a significant work effort to do a reset. Thankfully my XT8’s have been running fine since the last FW update. Resets are absolute last resort for me.

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

Unfortunately some here have advocated that it is required every time.

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

I agree we certainly have all been “unwilling” beta testers for sure. Unfortunately I will only do a full reset as an absolute last resort. It just takes way to much time and effort for me to get everything back to the way I have it setup. Now if you could do a reset and then restore your...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

I’m not saying that it won’t possibly help or solve an issue someone is having. But it’s kind of the equivalent of saying “we really don’t know what the problem is so just do a factory reset and see if that solves it”. For some that process is not a big deal. But if you have done lots of...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

Maybe, maybe not. I don’t think anyone has proven it one way or another nor has anyone to my knowledge identified root cause. Plenty of folks here have upgraded/downgraded/upgraded/etc without resorting to a reset with no problems. And honestly if Asus’s “solution” is to do a reset and re-apply...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

Where was his issue definitively diagnosed as to root cause and solved? Perhaps I missed it...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

Whenever I buy a new router I always keep the previous as backup. If you didn’t have a “previous” then not sure. Short term, and for WiFi devices you could use your mobile phone as a hotspot if you have that capability.

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

That is not normal. I would contact Asus.

    ZenWifi XT8 vs RT-AX86U

I received my XT8 pair on 8/16 and it was definitely buggy. I had to have it on a every other day reboot schedule just to keep it running. Since the FW update it has been rock solid with excellent performance for both my wired and WiFi clients.

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

I’m wondering if Asus improved there sw garbage collection or just cleaned things up a bit. Using the previous FW I would notice that as time went by when I would check the system status the used RAM % would slowly creep higher and higher. Ever since I applied this new FW that used RAM % number...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

For renaming I always use the Network Map screen and click on the icon directly above where it shows the number of clients. When you do that you will see the list of active stations on the right hand side of the screen. Click on the icon of the station you want to change and it will pop up a...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

How did you do the update? I had an issue when I first updated mine that was similar but in my case all stations, wired and wifi, dropped but it was at 5 hour intervals. I reverted to previous FW. Then after a day or so after it ran fine using the previous FW I updated but this time when I...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

It’s been solid for me since I updated my 2 nodes the same way. I’ve turned off the auto reboot schedule. If it makes it past 3 or 4 days without going offline I’ll declare victory...

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

Running for about 24 hours now with no issues. When I updated before it would not stay up for more than 5 hours in a row. Not sure what the difference is but this time I did update my 2 XT8 devices manually rather than let the GUI do it automatically.

    Release XT8 New Firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25790

So earlier today I decided to give the new FW another shot. This time I manually upgraded the FW on the main router and the aimesh node. Everything has been running great for about 11 hours now. So far so good.
