Router without NAT acceleration bottleneck for Wireguard VPN

Thanks, over here the Flint 2 works very well and the stock OpenWRT firmware is a bless. Speeds over Wireguard are excellent!

    GL.iNet Flint Alternatives

Performance is really great on 5G. My ISP is 500/50 and from 8 meters away (Wifi 5G) with 1 wall between I got still with Wireguard enabled 490+/49. Setup with GL.iNet GUI is easy and when you really want to dive deep into things you can switch to the Lucy GUI of Openwrt where you can really...

    GL.iNet Flint Alternatives

Yesterday I came home from a long travel to Asia for work and had time to open the 1 week ago delivered GL-MT6000. After unpacking install was very easy. After some fiddeling due to finding out how the software works it's doing quite well (coming from an AX-RT88U). My ISP offers me over cable...

    New router suggestion ..

I pre-ordered the new GL-iNet Flint 2 AX6000 (GL-MT6000) to replace my Asus AX88u. Main reasons is it is possible to obtain VPN Wireguard speeds up to 900Mbps where the AX88u sucks due to the limitations of the Qualcomm cpu. Will probably receive it somewhere end of next week and paid as early...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 Beta is now available for Wifi 6 models

Running Beta 1 for 48+ hrs and so far no problems or weird things detected.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Well I always update with the USB stick attached (Diversion and Entware on it) and it always gives no hussle at all. That means not that one can not have troubles with it attached but for me it just works after every update out of the box. Only extra I do after updating is powercycle the router...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Well in fact you can see the Public IP easily in the field "Endpoint Address: Port".

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Maybe the new Xiaomi router which has a Qualcom 4 core soc instead of a Broadcom it uses a WRT variant for their firmware: https://www.fudzilla.com/news/network/55982-xiaomi-makes-new-wi-fi-router-available

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Ask your VPN provider. Probably they offer a config file suited for your location which you only have to upload in the settings of the VPN connection.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

I can't connect my PC to the router with a UTP cable (rental appartement) so I used an AC-Wifi dongle but I couldn't get the speeds my ISP offered (350Down/35Up). So I bought a AX-53U and use it in Repeater mode connected over UTP to my PC. This solution is cheaper than a Wifi-6 dongle but for...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

AX-88U flashed beta 4 dirty but with manual reboot (disconnect - reconnect power). So far no problems seen.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Running beta 3 since it was released on AX-88U and had no hiccups. Only thing to mention maybe was that after a day or so my wireguard cliënt speed was cut in half. Disabling and enabling it again solved it, could well be an VPN provider issue but mentioning it is maybe usefull.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Well my VPN provider Torguard supports WireGuard as well and is very simple to set up, just download the config file for your country from their website and import it into WireGuard and done. It is in fact more simple to set up than with OpenVpn. So I guess it is depending how serious your VPN...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Thanks for your reply. It is not a biggie because I use it only in repeater mode and for whatever reason it is cheaper than an up to date Wifi-6 usb-dongle and I can't connect the PC over ethernet cable.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Will there in the future be support for the AX53U? Just curious since I bought it a week ago as extender.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Beta-1 is running fine at the moment but I have 1 question: IPV6 traffic is still not routed through OVPN or Wireguard tunnel. Did I do something wrong or is it (still?) not supported?

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Thanks everyone for the explanation. I was indeed mixing up NAT and NAT acceleration and that is why flow cache is off. With this in mind and WG active and my max download speed is 350 Mbps {by provider} i achieve exactly the 350 Mbps and that is really not bad.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I do not understand this. Using Wireguard in this beta version you have to set NAT to ON. When you set it to NO you get no connection. So please make me understand this.
