Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 is now available

I think I'm getting confused about the version numbers. As I was looking around, I saw that the RT-AX5400 had firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_23785 released this past Monday, but nothing new since 2023-06-20 for the RT-AX3000/RT-AX58U, so I was thinking "out of date", but it might just be...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 is now available

You may be correct about the next EOL. There's a recently released Asus router, the RT-AX5400, at the same price point as the RT-AX3000 originally was, also with a tri-core 1.5 GHz CPU (but I think the RT-AX5400's CPU is 64-bit, while the RT-AX3000's is 32-bit). The RT-AX3000 is on sale now for...

    New kernel version

I just thought that I should add that maybe OpenWRT got the poor reputation during the period when they lost many developers to a fork named LEDE (dispute over rules and priorities, IIRC), which 18 months or so later re-merged with OpenWRT. However, this was when KRACK was discovered. LEDE had a...

    New kernel version

Maybe you should investigate OpenWRT. There are several Asus AX routers based upon MediaTek SOCs that show up on the supported devices page (here's a link to their AX router search). OpenWRT is currently at kernel 5.15 (longterm) but moving to the next longterm kernel, 6.1. Some Qualcomm AX SOCs...

    nvram staticlist will not clear

Expanding upon Merlin's command above, add /jffs/nvram/custom_clientlist, as on my router, it, too, contains a mapping of host name to MAC address. Or maybe change the 'rm' to 'cp /dev/null' with a separate command for each file, as that would leave empty versions of those two files.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

You should be able to scp these files from your '/jffs/nvram' directory to save them, then restore them later: custom_clientlist, dhcp_staticlist. It may be possible to do a full configuration save, and somehow extract those two files from that, but I haven't tried, so I cannot say for sure.

Can anyone help me to check if my RT-AC86U is part of this latest ASUS debacle

I'm also going to support getting another tech visit. The timing associated with the arrival of spring, to me, is telling. Back in 1987, at a university, we had broadband cable internet (later replaced by fiber after a grant from a major computing company). The lead tech carried around an FM...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

From RMerlin: Have to wait for Asus to fix that. The networkmap service flushes ARP entries, including permanent ones. Networkmap is closed source, so outside of my control. @Ole it sounds like you just need to take your existing script and add it to scheduled tasks (aka crontab) via the...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

One can also keep a backup of /jffs on another system, and then port back select files after a factory reset. I installed 'rsync', but an 'scp -r' should work, too. It may also be possible to extract files from a config backup file, but I haven't tried that. Here's what my router's /jffs looks...

[OpenWRT] - formal ath11k support added to master

I just opted for a DynaLink DL-WRX36 from Amazon for 80 USD. It's base OS is Openwrt Chaos Calmer, but I've upgraded to the Openwrt snapshot. While the contents of /lib/firmware look proprietary, the kernel device drivers do have source code. Both 5ghz and 2.5ghz bands are working. Various...

Hi! Check that the channel you'd picked earlier is available in Australia. Here's a helpful Wikipedia page: List of WLAN channels.

    How to change /opt path

Not sure if this will help, but here's a script I wrote that gets activated by the nvram variable script_usbmount=path-to-script which is present in both the stock asuswrt and asuswrt-merlin. The script runs when a usb stick gets successfully mounted. To make sure that the path is available...

SSH by Authorized Keys without username and password Asus Router

The other thing I would add is that the public key is all one line, no new line or carriage return characters in it. Sometimes copy/paste tries to be too clever and inserts some.

    RT-AX58U - Firmware 388.2_0 fails to install

Hi! I suspect that you need to check the label of the RT-AX58U and see if it is a 'V1' (supported by asuswrt-merlin), or a 'V2' (not supported by asuswrt-merlin). Take a look at this forum thread: Merlin on RT-AX58U V2.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

Hmm ... You both have RT-AX56U units, units which ASUS themselves did not formally upgrade to 388. I suspect that seeing only three CPUs might be related to the fact that the RT-AX58U/RT-AX3000 (on the same development tree as the RT-AX56U) only have a 3-core CPU? @RMerlin, am I crossing wires...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 Beta is now available for Wifi 6 models

Same here, but I'll add that along with this, Firefox also began prompting me to allow pop-up windows for the router. I normally block all pop-up windows.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 Beta is now available for Wifi 6 models

Successful dirty upgrade from 388.2 alpha to 388.2 beta1 running for more than a day now (late to the update). Interestingly, Asus has, after a long time, posted the 388.22525 GPL on the RT-AX3000 support page. Neither the RT-AX56U nor the RT-AX58U have the GPL posted to their support pages...
