    Router temperatures

I find that I get a temperature drop just by adding some adhesive rubber feet below the existing router feet. This allows the air to flow a little easier without blocking any vents.

    [ 386.4 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

I'm hoping that the GPL issues surround Broadcom moving to a kernel capable of running Wireguard at the kernel level (probably long term support linux-5.10), although it might be nice to have the Paragon NTFS3 full read/write NTFS driver that seems to be coming to 5.15 (also likely an LTS...

    [ 386.4 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

When I visit the Asus support site for my RT-AX3000 (or its match, RT-AX58U), I no longer even see the GPL listed to download. It's been that way for 2-3 months (maybe longer, I don't visit there, that often). I should add that I'm connecting to this forum successfully via...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.3 is now available

Dirty upgrade from 386.3_0 to 386.3_2 on RT-AX3000 using RT-AX58U firmware. Also experienced a slightly longer upgrade cycle (same as DJones), but all is working well, now.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.3 is now available

Similar experience here with RT-AX58U firmware on RT-AX3000. I double click on the file, the screen blanks and shows "Applying Settings" and I can come back 3-5 minutes later and it's the same. Shift-Reload only shows the beta3 firmware page. OK, re-downloaded the '.zip' file, this time from...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.3 beta is now available

Beta3 (dirty upgrade from beta2) has been running fine for more than 12 hours on my RT-AX3000 (using the RT-AX58U firmware). I don't do VPN, so this post is no help there, but the SOCKS5 proxy (my self-built OpenSSH) and the local net home page (using lighttpd with custom config) I run are both...

Connect at the router in ssh via OpenVpn

Do your NAS devices allow outbound SSH in addition to inbound? If so, could you not login to one of them, and then login to the router? From there, you might be able to find out enough details to solve the issue or at least to gather data to post to the beta thread as ColinTaylor suggests.

Connect at the router in ssh via OpenVpn

I'm trying to think the path through, and it sounds like some routes might need to be defined to make sure the router's LAN address (in my case, 192.168.50.1) knows to now route through OpenVPN, but might that possibly mess up your various LAN nodes' access to the router?

    Save SSH credentials

I setup a SOCKS5 proxy on my routers using SSH. I keep the SSH credentials on the USB drive and use the 'script_usbmount' nvram setting to define a script to run when the USB drive gets mounted. That script then copies the known_hosts, config and identity files to /root/.ssh and makes sure that...

    News [ 386.3_Alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

The GPL is the GNU General Public License source code archive. There used to be a link to it on the support pages for the RT-AX58U and RT-AX3000, but it's now gone, as is the selection of "Other" in the operating system list.

    News [ 386.3_Alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Thanks for the new firmware to try. Successfully have done a dirty upgrade to 386.3_alpha1 from 386.2_4 on an RT-AX3000 (using the RT-AX58U firmware). Regarding GPL merges, has Asus moved the GPL code to another page? I regularly check the Asus support pages for both the RT-AX3000 and the...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

Well, I built OpenNTP and put it on my flash drive, so right now the results would be a distraction. The single port 123 line in my given 'netstat -peanut' output is the last line. Note that the netstat I use is one I built, not the busybox one included in the firmware. Note, though, that the...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

There's an NTP issue, which is showing in 386.1_2 as well as 386.2_beta2/3. The ntp daemon is only opening an IPv6 port for supporting LAN clients. Since my ISP is IPv4 only, I disable IPv6 on the IPv6 page, but only an IPv6 port is opened. Here's output from a couple of relevant commands that...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

I reverted to 386.1_2, performed an 'nvram erase' and reset everything. The DHCP manual assignment table is now displayed in 386.1_2 (as part of my debugging, it had stopped showing even in that release, pushing me to do the 'nvram erase'). HOWEVER, there's another issue that has survived the...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

Hi! Not using YazDHCP. Had to do a web search to even know what it was, sorry. I've looked around a bit, and noticed that in the nvram, there is no 'dhcp_hostnames=' entry (an empty definition). There are both empty and filled entries for dhcp_staticlist and custom_clientlist, but no empty entry...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

Performed a dirty upgrade to Beta3 from Beta2 this afternoon. The functionality seems fine. HOWEVER, on the LAN page / the DHCP Server tab, the table of defined clients is empty (I have 23 defined). The /jffs/nvram files dhcp_hostnames and custom_clientlist are both the same as in earlier...

DNS-over-TLS - disable possibility for regular DNS requests from asus router

Hi! Is it weird, though, that both stubby and dnsmasq have both supposedly opened port 53 on localhost under both UDP and TCP? Presumably stubby, since it runs later, wins, but normally, it would fail its open since dnsmasq already had it.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

Hi! Have successfully done a clean upgrade from 386.1_alpha3 to 386.1_beta1 on an RT-AX3000. Uploaded/installed the beta firmware, logged in via ssh, performed 'nvram erase ; reboot', and redid most settings through the GUI. However, since I have 'rsync' built and installed, and keep a backup, I...

Release [Test] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 - OpenVPN test builds

Performed a dirty upgrade from 384.19_alpha1 (installed via dirty upgrade from stock Asus 9354) on an RT-AX3000. I don't use VPN, so this is just an FYI that the RT-AX58U alpha2 firmware is basically working on it's cousin the RT-AX3000.

    Release [ 384.19_Alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Just did a dirty upgrade on an RT-AX3000 from stock Asus 9354 to RT-AX58U_384.19_alpha1-g4e2197f3d2_cferom_pureubi.w (the 2020-07-06 build). At first, it said I needed to reboot the device manually, but the login page eventually came up. However, /jffs was not mounted then, so I wound up doing...
