Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

It's not supposed to block ads, it's just a way to change your WAN DNS. Make sure your LAN DNS fields are empty. Also on LAN->DNSFilter page enable global filtering mode and set it to Router.

Also, remember the script by design will only work on reused Googlevideo subdomains, if you play a video hosted on a new Googlevideo subdomain it'll still play ad but the new subdomain will be added in the YouTube list and it'll block the ad on next use of that same subdomain but since there are...

It probably cleared the local DNS cache.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

As you read during the initial setup, some ads will still appear and they will decrease once the googlevideo subdomains are populated and start to get reused. In any case it's all experimental for now and it's possible that it won't work as expected for some guys.

It's way easier than all this: In your router Web-UI, go to DNSFilter under LAN. - Set 'Enable DNS-based Filtering' to ON. - Set 'Global Filter Mode' to 'Router'. - Click Apply.

I believe he's talking about Diversion GUI in the router WebUI and thelonelycoder is indeed working on it.

I don't do much YouTubing but so far it seems to be working for me. I'm currently on 52 GoogleVideo subdomains after the initial setup and I'm not seeing any ads on about 95% of the videos and every ad I watch increases the subdomains count so I would say by design the script is doing its thing.

    NextDNS Installer

Well in my case the Arbitrary IP is from the local YouTube Egde node in my ISP and I haven't seen any fail video playbacks so far, the way CDNs work, they are connected to all other nodes over the network and if they don't have the requested video in the cache, they'll fetch it over the network...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Okay and the lookup before the ad always returns a different IP? Or it can be same as before as well?

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

@grub Hey, in your testing, did you also see a DNS query AFTER the ad finished rolling?
  15. Asad Ali

    NextDNS Installer

As far as I can see/test this script is not replacing the hostnames IP nor blocking it. That's exactly why a nslookup on one of the GoogleVideo subdomains is a prerequisite for the setup. What this script is doing it simply gives out the fixed local YouTube CDN IP whenever there is a Googlevideo...

Edge node is a technical term we use in networking and it basically means a content delivery network within a local ISP or nearest to us in network distance. Google has over 7500 Edge nodes all over the world in different ISPs. https://peering.google.com/
