Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

Hi, reporting another successful dirty upgrade from beta4b to beta5 over my RT-AX88U router and RT-AX56U mesh client about 1 hour ago. I can observe a bit faster throughput and good 2.4Ghz coverage although only at 20Mhz channel width (won't try 40Mhz since living in a crowded area). Also Samba...

    Is RT-AX56u worth it?

It is not only CPU and RAM between 58 and 88... ax88 has also 4 additional gigabit ports that you may need, faster wifi if you have clients that support it (not only coverage which I agree should be similar) and an additional USB port that you may require for a printer or a backup 4g...

    Is RT-AX56u worth it?

.. at least using Merlin 386.1 beta 4 Media Bridge mode surely appears as a selectable option under administration->operation mode in my ax56. I Have not tested it though...

    Is RT-AX56u worth it?

While I agree that the ax58 is a better router than the ax56, the difference in price varies from 'just a few bucks' to 'almost 50% more' so it depends on your needs / price point and what offers you find at the time. Right now around here the '56 is being sold in amazon for 129 € (last friday...

    Merlin 386.1 Beta 4 - AiMesh 2x AX86U, Node constantly disconnecting clients

OK so it failed *without* using the 2.5Gb ports but connecting the router (Lan port 1Gb) to the node 1Gb WAN port ? if that is the case then of course the 2.5 ports are unrelated to your problem. It could still be the cable if you did not change it, but much less likely since now you are...

    Merlin 386.1 Beta 4 - AiMesh 2x AX86U, Node constantly disconnecting clients

If connectivity is failing between the router (that does the authentication) and the node you can expect inconsistent error messages such as 'password incorrect'. I'd seriously first of all fix the part that you know is wrong (a cat5e cable in a 2.5 Mbps connection) and see what happens then...

    Merlin 386.1 Beta 4 - AiMesh 2x AX86U, Node constantly disconnecting clients

Hi, disregard this if I did not understand correctly, but it seems like you are attempting to get your 2.5Mbit backhaul with a connection that is in part a cat5e cable (max speed 1 mbit) and in part a cat6e (max speed 10mbit) one. If this is the case then this most probably can't work right. You...

    GUI on AiMesh Node

Hi, you can access the GUI of a mesh node by running in that node ssh session the command 'nvram set re_mode=0' before acesssing its login page. Remember never to run 'nvram commit' (this includes any action in GUI which could commit) with re_mode set to 0 since it is reported to cause...

    Release New AX88U Firmware v3.0.0.4.386.41700

Great news! many thanks. In fact I am a Merlin user but this shows what to expect from next Merlin beta that will be based on GPL 41700.

    Ax88u stability, Mesh advice

I agree 384.19 is very good. In my case Merlin 386.1 betas 1,2,3 and 4b (not counting beta '4') are also very stable and do even some other nits like Aiprotection not counting correctly or aimesh 2.0 much more stable.

    Release New AX88U Firmware v3.0.0.4.386.41700

That is great news and may indicate Asus fixed the flaw in previous (retired) version as long as this data is seen with Aiprotection OR QoS OR apps analysis activated. Thanks!

    Ax88u stability, Mesh advice

Yes, you can check the changelog and the wiki at the web site documentation section. In any case a new official firmware has been posted today for the RT-AX88U in the ASUS official support page. Maybe also worth a try...

    Airtime Fairness question

Hi, just to add my experience to this thread, I have been running fine with airtime fairness OFF for several years but occassionally found some difficulties to connect devices to the network. This afternoon I could see that my PC was refusing to connect to the near router (RT-AX88) at 5Ghz band...

    Ax88u stability, Mesh advice

That is the one with serious flaws that has been retired by ASUS from their download site. I would either flash a previous version or install Merlin 386.1 beta4b.

    Ax88u stability, Mesh advice

Of course up to you... however if you read a bit, Merlin is based on stock plus improvements and fixes, and latest stock firmware has serious flaws which caused it to be retired from ASUS website and those have been bypassed in b4b Merlin fw for the ax88u. Also.. you did not tell what fw level...

    Ax88u stability, Mesh advice

Hi, what firmware level are you on ? I'd test with 386.1 beta4b which is getting very good feedback in the beta thread, and I've had stability problems also with 2.4 in previous firmwares (384 line). However, your problem seems to be more related to a 'protocol related problem' between the...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

Hi, this is to post my 1 week experience with my setup (AX88U + AX56U aimesh node) and firmware 386.1 beta4b after one week. I use AIprotection w/traffic analyzer but not QoS. I also use OpenVPN server, Samba, DHCP with a few static IPs, DNSSEC, DDNS, ipTV, Diversion, Transmission and miniDLNA...
