    A hard-to-beat combination....

NAS Transfer Rate vs. Read/Write speed Tim.... Unless I'm missing something here (which is entirely possible), I'm not seeing the correlation between NAS transfer rates (which in the context of the conversation, I presume you mean to be a measurement of the speed of data movement from the...

    A hard-to-beat combination....

Aha.... Thanks for clearing that up, Tim. It's also possible that the crazy-slow eSATA backup speeds I mentioned were not from direct-connected devices...in other words, both the NAS and the eSATA were attached to a connected PC...meaning that network speed came into play. In my case, the...

    A hard-to-beat combination....

Okay.... Thanks, Tim. If I'm reading that right (and if I'm not, then it may be the root of my concern and confusion), 33 MB/s (megabits per second) very roughly translates to 4.7 megabytes per second...which is roughly 282 megabytes per hour, which (by my admittedly questionable math)...

    A hard-to-beat combination....

Bump, and.... Cheesy, I know, but I'm bumping my own message, because I've continued my due-diligence in the month since I started this thread, and still haven't pulled the trigger on my purchase. Here's the sticking point -- my intent (see original message) is to go with a single-drive NAS...

    A hard-to-beat combination....

...or at least I think it could be. Having *pretty much* settled on the QNAP TS-109 Pro II for my NAS, the only question that remains is how to handle NAS backups to an external (eSATA, USB, etc.) drive. Then I found this.... http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1346&ID=1731...

Your thoughts about QNAP TS-109 II

Netgear ReadyNAS Duo Back when I was *convinced* that 2-drive RAID1 backup was the way to go, I considered the Netgear...I'm just not that convinced anymore. That's why I've been looking at single-drive solutuons.... ...now that I'm *convinced* that a single-drive NAS with external drive...

Your thoughts about QNAP TS-109 II

Thanks, Tim.... Thanks for the info, Tim. I should have mentioned that I'll be using this NAS to store my 20,000+ MP3s, along with several thousand digital pictures. iTunes serving (to a networked Macbook Pro and Windows XP laptop) is a must, and I also want my PS3 to be able to get in...

Your thoughts about QNAP TS-109 II

QNAP TS-109 Pro II Hi, Cino.... I'm new here myself, and it looks like you're asking pretty much the same questions I was about to ask -- except that I'm looking at the TS-109 Pro II, the next model up the line. (I'm recovering from being *almost* badly burned by a terrible D-Link DNS-323...
