Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Maybe take a look at the Eeros or some mesh solution then. I actually am running with a Google Nest Wifi right now as a trial run for a week but I think I'll return it. It's very good and easy to use. I'm also only using the main router and no other mesh points, and it covers more or less the...

AC3100 Syslog Auth and Assoc Successful with incorrect WPA2 key

So I'm not sure if it was clear in the post. But basically I cleared all the devices from the router and started with a fresh SSID and password. None of my existing devices could attempt to automatically connect to a new SSID that is not saved on them. There is only one device on the network and...

AC3100 Syslog Auth and Assoc Successful with incorrect WPA2 key

Those posts look like it's about successful connections to the network and these logs in general. What I'm wondering is why the log itself is showing Authentication as successful with an incorrect WPA2 password? My phone doesn't actually connect with the wrong password but the router for some...

AC3100 Syslog Auth and Assoc Successful with incorrect WPA2 key

Check my post above. I think it's more than that and this is actually a bug. It shows devices that cannot Authenticate with the network as succesfully authenticated in the log, but deauths them right away.

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Okay so in case you or anyone else was wondering. I did some experimenting and was able to reproduce these logs. Clearly looks like a bug in ASUS firmware. I turned off MAC filtering, changed my SSID/Passwords so none of my other devices would try and automatically connect, then tried...

AC3100 Syslog Auth and Assoc Successful with incorrect WPA2 key

Hello, I'm having a similar issue as someone else posted about their A86 here https://www.snbforums.com/threads/problems-with-my-rt-ac86u.66722/page-2#post-628471 Basically I'm seeing several log entries of Assoc and Auth, followed by a Deauth a few seconds later of random MAC addresses that...

    Problems with my RT-AC86U

Hey quick question, that unauthorized MAC you saw in the logs, did it ever connect to your network? Like was it in the online or offline client list at all? I'm just wondering because I had the same issue on my RT-AC3100 with a ton of similar logs of MAC addresses that I have never seen before...

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Yeah I was thinking it might have been something during setup, though I wasn't sure if setup stores the connected devices still. And there's no default password on setup I believe, the router just shows up as an open network IIRC.

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Yup I did turn of WPS after I saw that device a few months ago but didn't change my passwords stupidly. Didn't realize they could just get WPA2 passwords through WPS, but i figured blocking the device would be enough. Is there a way to further reduce signal strength on the router? I turned off...

AC3100 Traffic Analyzer Deleted History By Itself?

I see. Odd that it randomly happened. I see a similar thread from a while back for someone else: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/wtf-trend-traffic-statistics-deleting-itself.62913/ Seems similar to what I experienced. Perhaps a firmware bug? Although I'm on a different model. Also another...

AC3100 Traffic Analyzer Deleted History By Itself?

Hello, Has anyone had an issue where the traffic history deleted itself and started on the 1st of a random month? I had this router since June, and a few weeks ago all my history from June-Aug got deleted and only starts from September 1 onward. Is this a limitation of the traffic analyzer? I...

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

I hope so lol. In a couple of posts earlier I was a little paranoid about some random D-Link device I found on my network a few days after installing this router. I'm 100% sure that's not any of our devices and it looked like it was some sort of range extender that somehow got connected to the...

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Makes sense. Thanks. So the clients on your repeater - do you see them in the DCHP list on the AX3000 main router? And also if the AX3000 has traffic history/usage, would the usage log show the extender traffic? I remember when I saw this extender I don't think there was any traffic to it since...

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Yeah I did all that already and set up a MAC whitelist now. But I presume that even blocking the internet should prevent it from passing on a proper internet connection to the devices connected to it right? I tested the same block on one of my devices and I can connect to the network but I don't...

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Thanks. So would any clients connected to the extender show up in the client list on the router? Because I haven't seen any new unknown devices except for that extender. I "blocked" the extender but I dont think it was a MAC block. I just used the router app to block it which I believe just...

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

I'm not sure. I thought just pushing the button on both devices around the same time would make it work. I'm guessing if that's the case someone pushed their range extender WPS button at the same time I did on my router. A very rare occurence but maybe its possible..

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

The MAC address of the rogue extender isn't in the logs anywhere actually. I don't think I've seen it since I blocked it several months ago. It's a bizarre situation all around because I bought this router in June and in the first week of owning it I saw the range extender somehow on the offline...

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Thanks. That was only a part of the log. There's a bunch of other devices I've seen that exhibit similar behaviour in the log, some of these do have vendors (samsung, apple, oneplus). Thing is, they show as associated but immediately get a deauth. I was just thinking its people walking by...

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

Thing is, none of these clients show up in the DCHP lease list. Or in the active clients. Or in the offline clients. Is this a bug or something? Like if it was actually connected to the network wouldn't it be showing there?

Can someone explain the random MAC Addresses in Syslog? Should I be concerned?

But I have MAC randomization turned off for all my android/windows devices. Does it do that despite the fact its turned off? On top of that I don't see these MAC addresses in the DCHP list or client list. I want to make sure no one has connected to my network without it showing on the client list.
