Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Hello all....I have a bit of a VPN tunnel quirk that I can't explain....probably an obvious issue but.... Nevertheless, I modify the .conf file via 'vx' and add the outgoing server IP. Save (Ctrl-X and save buffer yes)...no issue. Issue VPN 1 command and all starts without issue. However, if...

    Blockfiles

Hi all, Just a throw it out there post to ask what people think and prefer with blockfiles (ad/mal etc) With so many alternatives, I wanted to understand where people default to. Me, in my Unbound setup currently, I have Steve Black and Krozga in the Blocklist file as per @juched . Just...

Suricata Suricata - IDS on AsusWRT Merlin

@rgnldo .....do you disable AiProtect as well with this setup? Suricata reads like a very good solution....I would be interested in understanding what the thoughts are comparing it to say Skynet. Also, is there any Unbound interfaces?

Indeed I do use Skynet.....I will re-attempt....thanks as always...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

You are very clairvoyant! haha. I have run this and the result is Apr 24 13:00:57 kernel: [BLOCKED - INBOUND] IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=XX SRC=89.248.172.123 DST=wan.isp.ip.addr UDP SPT=47347 DPT=53 Not what I was expecting since the SRC isn't the address in the .conf file nor associated with my...

SIP - One way audio troubleshooting

I would highly recommend bridging out your modem if you can find out how. There has to be a way. Once you find out how to log into it (say 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.100.0 perhaps)....then you can tinker. I think alot of the issue you're having is probably with the modem settings...if you can...

SIP - One way audio troubleshooting

Are you on Merlin firmware? I ran into this problem when I first migrated to the Obi200 on a VOIP service but back then I was only on a Airport Extreme. The only way I could get around it was opening ports that the service provider 'recommended'. Not the best option to be sure. Another thing...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

So by rights, you could (theoretically), setup the VPN client, force no (or any number of them via the policy rules) devices to use the VPN tunnel itself but have unbound send requests via the tunnel for all requests??? (if the outbound server IP address is set in the .conf file)...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Thank you again....understood.....but if you set DNS config to disabled, wouldn't unbound traffic use the VPN tunnel anyway if the VPN is enabled and the VPN server is not defined in the unbound config? Sorry for the basic questions...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Haha...your response beat me to it! So if that is the setup, why do you need to configure the VPN server in unbound?

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Thank you.... So if that's the case, how does setting this up in unbound differ from simply setting the 'Accept DNS configuration' to Disabled in the VPN Client? Doesn't the above force the router to use the defined DNS config (in the case of unbound then itself?)
  12. SuperDuke

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Thank you Chris. But how do you configure the VPN service then? I think this is the step I'm clearly missing.....do you set it up via the OpenVPN client in the firmware GUI? That's the only place I could think where login information is added....and if that's true, then can't you just set the...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Forgive my ignorance (again!), but is this feature actually using the VPN services DNS servers or is this feature actually a true tunnel through VPN end-to-end (with one end being unbound requests)? If the former, I understand. If the latter, then how does one overcome the login credentials...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Thanks @Martineau . When I review the unbound.conf file now, the RPZ block at the end is commented out. Do we need to uncomment for firewall functionality?

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

@juched If I have modified the adblock blockfiles file with an addition, how do I force it to download the new block list? Thanks! I have the Adblocker and Firewall functional. Thanks for the hard work to all involved. edit: I assumed a uninstall/reinstall...no issues...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Now here is a totally stupid and basic question...(so apologies in advance) but I am trying top mod the blocklist file via either nano or vi and for some reason or another it's not allowing me to update or even type.....any reason why that might be? I stopped unbound to attempt that as well...

    Dot & DNSSEC vs Unbound?

It's really up to you, however Unbound does have adblocking and now malware (albeit somewhat immature). I have Unbound installed with Skynet/Diversion and it has worked very well. I also have DNSFiltering set up for my kids and their devices usingn Cleanbrowsing Family. Alot of awesome work...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

@juched ....where in the adblock install (or file) do you specify your krozga list? Your work is awesome and I am now very interested in using your setup....thanks

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Did you process the whitelisting addition? That has snookered me before.

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Thanks @Martineau ......is the new feature as rich as Diversion? Seems like a list update every 15 minutes is pretty enhanced.... The way I read the new feature was that it also included Skynet-esque functionality but these eyes are naive!
