Cisco Gets Serious About Small Biz Storage

I don't know if this is coincidence or not, but all QNAP NASes has disappeared from Newegg.com. But the new Cisco ones are listed... Maybe they are buying them. Would only make since :-)

Ctera CloudPlug no longer available direct from Ctera

Thanks for asking Tim. In the slideshow preview you posted today: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-slideshows/31122-slideshowctera-c200 This is a typo on the ninth slide. The text currently reads: "25 GB of online storage for a year costs and 50 GB costs 9." Not quite sure...

Ctera CloudPlug no longer available direct from Ctera

Since smallnetbuilder posted the announcement of their firmware updates supporting Time Machine backups, I went to Ctera's site to order a plug. I got distracted and walked away, and when I returned to go through with the purchase the Buy link was gone. I chatted online today with them and...

    Ctera Cloud Plug Review

Jim, Thanks for taking the time to contact Ctera. When the device first launched I tried an online chat to ask some questions but after waiting 20 minutes I gave up. I guess they were just slammed with initial interest. I did eventually get through to ask about future support for HFS+...

    Ctera Cloud Plug Review

Nice review (as usual) by Jim Buzbee. I was very curious how well the device performed after seeing the release announcement on Ctera's website. I do have one question if Jim is listening...does the eSATA port support port multiplier? I would like use an external enclosure with multiple disks...

    Iomega StorCenter ix4-200d

Nice review. Since the ix2-200d was just announced a few days ago, I have been tempted as that unit (with 2 bays instead of four) seemed tempting. I did an online chat with Iomega to confirm some things not clear on the website and you answered some of them (No RAID expansion once setup), but...

    Lg n4b1

I know you mentioned you were giving LG some time to address issues with the unit and add information to their website. Having looked at the website I haven't seen anything updated to include the deivce. Do you still plan to publish the review? There is one review of the unit on newegg.com...

    Intel SS4200 running FreeBSD 7.1 with 4 x 1.5 TB seagate drives

Slightly off topic from the last post, but... I just saw that SCXE was released with USB serial console support: http://mountall.blogspot.com/2009/04/sxce-build-112-is-out.html Might make it easier for people trying to install without having to add the serial port header to the SS4200...

    Review Request

This NAS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822319001 from LG with an integrated Bluray writer seems interesting. Seems based on the same ARM processor that most of the older QNAP NASes are based on. Might be interesting to run Ubuntu or Debian on. I downloaded the...

Pulling ahead of the RAID 5 Pack: QNAP TS-509 Pro Reviewed

Nice review, as always. I would be really curious to see how FreeNAS (both the 0.6 and 0.7 variant) run on it (if at all). Also would love to see how OpenSolaris would work.
