Apparent buffer overflow on FW .9313 (AC3200)

Seems like the DB lookup should be a click-to-see type item, as I only look at it for unfamiliar devices. Either that, or they make sure not to copy an entire 200-byte string into a 16-byte field.

    Blocking Wired devices?

With physical access, NO device is immune to hacking. For example, Factory reset can be done via pushbuttons. Or they can just take the cable that connects to your modem and plug in directly, Etc. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

getting gig symmetrical WAN connection and need to upgrade router.

@System Error Message : can you recommend some how-to pages for the Mikrotik Routerboard? I'd like to learn about this. Perhaps a stable wired connection plus APs would be my best bet for getting my home network stable and secure.

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

@superjet Try turning off SPI and please post back what your throughput results are afterwards. That was the throughput culprit on my R7000v1 (single core model or R7000) as well as my ASUS RT-AC68R, ASUS RT-AC87R, and even my ASUS RT-AC3200.

    [Official] RT-N66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.378.9313

It all depends on which devices are on your network. If a device hits the buffer overflow problem in Network Map, whether things crash or lot comes down to what data/flags get "stepped-on" by the overflow. I've seen this on my 3200 running .9313 as well, so it's clearly something to do with...

    ==NULL/npch ==NULL/npch ==NULL/npch ==NULL

I saw this with IPv6 on and all Trend Micro features turned off on a non-PPP connection, so IPv6 seems a likely suspect.

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9313

Just so it's clear, by "unlink app and router" you mean you 1) Uninstalled app 2) Cold reboot router 3) Logged in via web api after reboot 4) Still see "mastiff" message in your syslog Is this correct?

    Asus AC3200 Lock ups.

Thinking more about this...it's possible that a bug related to using the new Android app to check on the router may be exposing some problems. My worst issues happened and are much more frequent since I started using that app. Perhaps there's a bug in whatever code in the router supports that...

RT-AC68U - Unable to upgrade firmware

System log is missing from your post

    Asus AC3200 Lock ups.

More crashes, buffer overrun, corrupted log (garbage in middle of text here and there), dhcp dropping out, random reboots, I've seen it all today. 9313 gets the official thumbs down! 9135 was more stable... Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

    I'm curious...why do you ask?

Apparent buffer overflow on FW .9313 (AC3200)

Looks like Asus forgot to check on the size of the manufacturer name before they copy it into the Network Map. And no, I don't have a satellite dish or anything with that MAC address on my wired network, so there's likely a buffer overflow going on somewhere...

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

Ugh. This is the exact same issue I have on my ASUS AC3200: all is well and good until a wired connection decides to do something. Does it still happen with the latest firmware?

    RT-AC68U - Connect Clients?

I've seen duplicates in the table. I think it happens when a client moves from one radio to another. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

Netgear R7500v2 (100% QCA MU-MIMO) First Impressions & Formal Review

Watching this thread with great interest. Especially want to hear about any glitches you encounter, as I find myself disappointed enough in my current ASUS RT-AC3200 behavior, that I am actively looking for a different model.

    Asus AC3200 Lock ups.

Ugh. Mine went AWOL a few minutes ago...no good reason. Oddly, uplink was ok, but downlink just lags. Looks like 9313 FW isn't so great. May try going back to Merlin 378.56_2, which I didn't hit any issues on. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

    RT-AC3100

Watching closely for stability issues...please post if you see anything glitchy. Any slowness granting an IP address after wifi authentication?

Which Router to upgrade to from RT-AC66U

Forgot to mention something--usually router antennas are designed for stronger horizontal signals. If you need to reach the basement well, you may need to jockey things around a bit, which in turn will cause sacrifices in the other directions. It becomes more and more clear that having enough...

AC68U - dual WAN stability: ISP's DHCP did not function properly

Just saw this thread...I had this exact scenario happen with my Time Warner cable connection (but non-PPoE!) on an RT-AC3200 last week. Twice, both with .9135 firmware. This was not apparently due to the known memory leak problem with that FW, as RAM was under 40% used. "DHCP did not function...
