    I arrived at this point after many failed attempts to flash 388.4 on 388.3 after following many helpful suggestions from the forum short of stock re-flash, factory reset, etc. Since other family members depend on this router, I have to pick an appropriate time to open a potential can of worms...

    No, I have not done that yet. I am considering waiting until, and if, there is a more substantial Merlin firmware upgrade for the RT-AX88u Pro beyond 388.4, since the router is functioning perfectly well under 388.3 and I am satisfied with the features of 388.3 so far.

    Yes, that's the firmware that won't take. I had originally gone from the stock Asus firmware to 388.3 without problem a few months ago. Browser refresh makes no difference. The firmware indicated on the router remains 388.3 following upload and reboot.

    Tried turning off anti-virus, firewall, VPN, and tried another browser without success.

    Before a hard reset, I would try Aiadi's suggestion. If I were to perform a reset and a successful upgrade, will my saved settings config file restore ALL my settings including reserved IPs, client names (over 100 of them), VPN settings, etc? Thanks

    fwiw, I have had 2 different results/messages in my attempts to upgrade to 388.4: One is that the UI screen brings me back to a login screen shortly following 100% completion of the upload. The other result is that a message is displayed, following 100% completion, that says to do a manual...

    nothing in the USB port and no addons. Strange because I went from the stock ASUS firmware to 388.3 without an issue a few months ago.
