Help Trying to setup network for home

My experience is that it doesn't make a difference for the device what name the SSID has other than the user knows what AP the device is connected to. The end result is still that the device has to be "poked" to move to a better AP. Seeing the different SSID's might be helpful for the person...

Help Trying to setup network for home

Here is my 2 cents Stick with one SSID. Lower the power and carefully choose the channels If you can use 5Ghz to "contain" the signal in a room The stickiness is mostly a problem of portable devices like smartphones and tablets that are programmed to hold on to a signal as long as...

    Home network from scratch

You might want to read this article and share it with your builder. http://www.siemon.com/uk/white_papers/07-03-01-demystifying.asp Bottom line, Cat5e is old standard. This network cable has to be able to support future requirements. You can only install this once.

    Home network from scratch

Congrats on the new house plans and the foresight to wire the place :-) Use multiple UniFi AP's rather than one big one! Remember that portable devices like smartphones and tablets have weak transmitters. They might hear the WiFi AP from the attic but cant talk back. Its better to spread out...

OSX 10.9 server as a router

Sorry for my lack of knowledge. We did this during a training session. Created a 2nd ethernet port on a Mac Mini with an adapter and arranged the settings so the server would be the router. What is the name for what I want to do so I can start searching the web and manuals to start...

    Patch pannel or direct connect?

I tend to velco the router and switch against the wall so wires come straight down to the switch. Only a 1ft jumper cable between the router and the switch. I am using the EZ-RJ45's from Platinum Tools. They save me time and frustration. Just make sure to use their crimp tool..

    Patch pannel or direct connect?

Thanks for the feedback. I agree a patch pannel looks more professional. And is the way to go with a large network. But for something with less than 16 cables. I am not sure. As long as they are organized well. Spare but no exesive cable length. Most importantly properly labelled.... :o...

    Patch pannel or direct connect?

In a household network about 12 cat6 cables are coming into a wall cabinet. Is there a (dis) advantage of crimping the Rj45 Jacks directly to the cables and plug them into a switch.. Or should I do it "nice' and connect the wiring first to a patch panel. My idea is that less interruptions in...

    Vypr VPN router?

I am looking for a wired only router. Want to pipe all traffic trough VYPR. The pre flashed units from dd-wrt.com and flashrouters are all consumer grade units. No need for Wifi or even a build in switch for that matter. Just want a high speed stable unit. Anny suggestions? Rogier

Best range wireless router for less than $80-100?

These are some factors you have to keep in mind that will effect the coverage: Walls Wall material Mirrors Interference from other WiFi signals Sensitivity / strength of the device you want to connect to* *its a 2 way communication the router needs to be able to hear the other side...

    Recommendation for dual wan router

I have a PePlink Soho and really like it. Its very easy to configure and the tech support is amazing. This is more important to me than other features and specs. Can't go wrong with a Peplink for Dual wan routers. Smiles across the wires, Rogier

    WiFi To Outdoor Barn

No the Uibiquity products are definitely not plug and play. Since you have a good signal with the doors open, I think the easiest solution is to install an outdoor antenna (directional pointing at the house would be best!). Losses in the coax cable between the router and the antenna are...
